And was your uncle riding his chair in the roadway? Was he crossing outside a crosswalk or against a light? I see wheelchair and scooter riders every day, out on busy streets, expecting cars to slow down or stop so that they can do whatever they want to do. There is no excuse for leaving the scene of an accident, but I wonder if your uncle was one of the elderly men that I see all the time totally disregarding the rules of the road.

Gee, all these "grieving relatives" are spending their time on Topix??? Maybe if you're really grieving relatives you're feeling guilty for letting him ride around the streets in a wheelchair instead of taking him where he needed to go? If you're not, you should be. I hope the hit and run driver gets caught and the book thrown at him, BUT.......no one should be wheeling around busy streets in a wheelchair or a scooter. They're a hazard to themselves and everyone else.

Dear Tired of Silly--my uncle was a man of great strength and will. He survived a terrible stroke years ago that most people would have folded up and died from. He taught himself to speak again, and went through grueling physical therapy to learn to (semi-walk) again. His wheelchair was his only freedom--was he supposed to lock himself away in a room?) and the 'grieving relatives' some of us came online to discover that our loved one was indeed the person in the news reports. And yes, I agree it is dangerous to have elderly people in wheelchairs on the street--but he was IN THE CROSSWALK legally as per the police report. No one feels guilty here--we feel loss and sadness. You should feel guilty, TOS, for being such a typical "let me put my worthless two cents in" type of internet TROLL in the face of the loss of a husband of 48 years and a beloved father, uncle, brother and friend. He was coming home from Church, for goodness sake.

I have no idea what your "uncle" (if indeed you are even a relative) was like and it is irrelevant. Nor does it matter where he was going. Someone should have cared enough about him to take him where he needed/wanted to go. I hope that all the other w/c and scooter riders who endanger themselves and everyone on the road by cruising around busy streets take a lesson from his death. Get a ride or use the taxpayer funded transportation systems that are available. Families, your disabled "loved one" is YOUR responsibility.

I know the family who's car was stolen and involved in this accident. The young mother is devestated that this innocent man was slain by her stolen car. Obviously, this man was not doing anything wrong but was killed by a car theif driving wrecklessly.

Tired, the man was in the crosswalk!! Geez, if he'd been on foot, you would not even given this thread a thought. Pedistrians have the right of way, no matter how the maneuver in the crosswalk even if the man was using a walker. I understand that some don't use good judgement when using those scooters but in this situation, that does not appear to be the case. Quit blaming the victim. Whatever you do, don't go to LA, the people there cross whenever they freaking feel like it and still have the right of way.

Whatever you do, don't go to LA, the people there cross whenever they freaking feel like it and still have the right of way. People in Orlando also cross wherever and whenever they want. That's why so many of them get run over. And it has not been established whether or not he was obeying traffic lights. Pedestrians have the right of way when they are crossing legally. They can't just walk into the crosswalk whenever they want, or ride their wheelchair/scooter into it. That's the law in FL, where this accident occurred. I don't KNOW who was to blame. I know that the guy in the car needs to be found and prosecuted for hit and run, but it is very unclear from the article whether the victim bears some blame as well. And I don't believe for a second that these people are his relatives. I'm sure his relatives have more to do than play on Topix at this time.

Your fantasies are irrelevant to the world, PERVERT. What I look like, what I weigh, whether I have three heads, none of them are of any importance to you, since we will never meet (I don't hang out with trashy PERVERTS). We've seen your picture and we know you are a grotesque little PERVERT, so I guess you think everyone else is too. Shouldn't you be packing? Or did you lie again about what you're "going to do", little big man?

One thing that nags at me: When was the vehicle reported stolen? Could it have been driven by a relative of the owner, or the owner themselves? I suspect something weird because who the eff would want to steal a frakkin' Volvo?
