You choose: Save gas or your life

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Like most Greater Orlandoans, I commute to work. My drive from home in Winter Park to my Altamonte Springs office takes roughly 20 minutes each way.

If I had this mans problems I believe I would stay at home and call my mama. But I don't. Get up in the morning and be glad to be able to. It's a pleasure to enjoy life instead of finding something to complain about at every intersection. Why in the world did the Sentinel print this "sad sacks" comments? Are we to feel sorry for him?

Good god, what a drama queen this man is! His very -life- is in danger? Hardly. Only a real bastard would complain about the behaviour of someone in another vehicle, a car length away in traffic! And calling himself a conservationist because he drives his gas guzzling beamer to work with the window down for a day? Laughable. This guy is the last person qualified to comment on how hard things are these days.

my grandkids whine less than this guy. take the bus. ride a bike. move to new hampshire. you have choices. stop blaming the oil companies for your choice to buy their gas. its not like they have a huge profit MARGIN. conserve enough, and they won't sell as many gallons of gas, and they won't make so much of a profit. however, if they "broke even" and made no profit, it would only save you 9 cents on the dollar.

Why would the sentinel print such a whinner. Wouldn't you want to sit next to this guy. Oh! No! They are trying to poison me, THEY did not have grey poupon for my steakburger! Don't know if I can make through the afternoon. The editors are spending way too much time reading the Huffinton Post.

Did it ever cross your mind to start carpooling? If you only drove your car to work once or twice per week you could still save gas and use your AC. Just a thought...

Alan, seriously, you need to be evaluated for allergies if you get a headache with a minutes exposure to chemicals or fumes while driving with your windows down. That is not normal and should be looked into.

I drive a few miles to work and back home every day with my windows down because it's the only "fresh" air I get. If it's ninety degrees out I ahve the windows down and the A/C blowing on me.:) yeah, I don't care for cigarette smoke or car fumes at stoplights, but the smells of fresh baked bread, fresh cut grass, and other pleasant things more than make up for it in my book.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

You're right on the money with this article - especially about the stinky smokers.

What a numb nut. I'm sure smoke from a cig inside another car was so overwhelming you nearly fainted. The exhaust and other fumes is pretty much normal in traffic. Are you the kind of guy that jogs behind a bus and gripes about the guy you ran past because he was smoking? What a sensitive fellow you are. It is obvious you will never get your nose in a real sweet spot. What a panzy.

Ok, I agree that the guy should not be whining as much as he is-HOWEVER, he does make a good point. There is a lot of crap in the air and it is making it hard for us to live. I think that instead of us focusing on who bought Louis Vitton (sorry, my spelling is horrible), maybe we should focus on making things a little bit better for everyone. Yes, I am a dreamer, but many of you would be much happier if you could take a walk without chocking on someone's cigarette or on some car's exhaust.
I think the story should be: more signs of pollution cause reporter to worry-pollution should be a story.::Sigh:: If only we could take a way a lot of the pollution-everyone would be happier.

Anyway-hope everyone had a good 4th of July-enjoy your summer.

And here I thought it was going to be a legitimate opinion regarding the life or death choice to bike to work (on our dangerous and unfriendly roads)as so many news articles have advised, in order to save on gas. That would have been a more compelling letter.

I can sympathize with this author. The intense heat in Florida can make driving more than 5 minutes without A/C a near death experience. Added to the heat, the fumes from other vehicles and smokers while sitting in a traffic jam are suffocating. I say blast the A/C til your windows are frosty. It's worth every penny!

Again, the title of this article is MISLEADING! I thought it was a story of something remotely intelligent like either drive your car or ride a scooter but this nonsense of window up or down is purely stupid. What a waste of space! This guy whines like my 7 yr old niece.
