Really great article: At last there was something positive in the newspaper and it was NOT about the lousy arena project!

You got that right: really great and positive article! I had to turn off all the negative news on Channel 9 this morning and read this article! One continual hour of total violence in Orlando!

What a wonderful group of parents and teenagers. Your thoughtful actions will be remembered for a lifetime. I am a Lyman Alumni from 1987 and your group makes me proud to be a HOUND ! Is there a contact person, or anyone I can call to make a donation ?

What a beautiful story and article. Kids in a band helping kids in need. Such a positve way to start the day. The news needs to start reporting more on these types of things. What a great article! Way to go kids, you should all be very proud of yourselves.

I know this is suppose to be a feel good story. But,I get the distinct impression that if this young lady were not a popular cheerleader in the school and pretty this event would not have taken place. If she was just some plain Jane in a run down house you would not have cared.Just my opinion.

I am not sure you understood the article. The young lady was a band member NOT a cheerleader.
I applaud those who help others with random acts of kindness. If only each person in the world participated in such and act on a daily basis.....

The lady is right: you don't need a big building with fancy windows, a complicated superstructure, politically-burning leaders, or anything else to do simply what Jesus and the other great spiritual leaders asked us to do: show love for one another, and relieve one another's suffering.

I'm grateful for this article.

And to Leonard: your comment is both right and wrong: this kind of thing happens on a smaller scale every day in Hispanic and black communities; it's just not covered in the news.

Thanks for your very kind words. Donations to the Band Aids would be most welcome. Please contact me for details -- president@lymanband.com. In return, we'd love to have you as our guest at the Band's Winter Showcase in December! And, of course, come see our band and football team in action at Friday night varsity games. We have great shows planned for this year!

Having been there yesterday when the family arrived home, I can tell you it was a mixture of emotions -- laughter and tears. And yes, she was the girl who lost her mom this year, she's in the band and is a cheerleader, too. We think she's pretty remarkable!

Since our formation this year, the Band Aids have reached out to several families who've gone through rough times - families with a chronically ill parent or who've lost parents. And our circle of helper families has grown even wider with this latest project. As the name implies, the Band Aids can't solve the underlying traumatic events, but we can act as a bandaid or balm over a wound. We hope we DON'T have any more such events in the Band family, but the Band Aids are ready to respond when needed.
