Vincent Bradshaw wrote an article where he did research and did not let ideology get in the way. He wrote about Section 8 housing, almost all the leaseholders are single mothers and the majority will not work because you pay more rent. Section 8 housing is also called affordable housing. Stop feeling guilty. Fight against Section 8 apartments in your neighborhood.

"Orlando The City Beautiful"?

Yep, there is the problem. They need to work. They need to stop living off our money and having kids on our money. The kids see this is the way to live....off the taxpayer and the cycle lives on. They might be home to raise their kids, but in order to raise kids properly, you need some values to give them! These people have none. How can they teach their kids that it is wrong to steal when the mother takes a check every month that she didn't earn, but instead stole from the taxpayer? |

I'm sick and tired of listening to these losers whine about their situation; they created it, they perpetuate it, and they will live it for the rest of their sorry lives until they get off their entitlement mindset, GET and KEEP a job, and teach their children to act like human beings.
These people won't get jobs because that may cause their rent to increase, but I daresay that they have plenty of discretionary funds for flashy jewelry, cell phones, fancy hair-dos, and the like. Sympathy? Not from me. I have to get up and go to work. |

Where has this reporter been? This place has been a suck hole for crime and poverty for over 20 years. Nothing has changed nor will it till the residents start helping them selves and stop looking for hand outs.

Does anybody really think that the Palms Apartments will ever change? It was known for violent crime and criminal behavior 30 years ago. The city and other government entities have literally poured millions of dollars into that place over the years and it never changes. Why, because of the mindset and lifestyle of the people who live there.
The residents continually complain about and attack police officers, the very group of people who are trying to combat the crime there. At the very same time they complain about the police not doing anything to help and protect them. Three people are shot and killed there and there are no witnesses and yet, when the police have to chase or use force to make an arrest theres's never a shortage of residents on the TV news crying police brutality and racism. Just watch, it's just a matter of time before a police officer has to shoot a violent and armed criminal at the Palms Apartments, then the residents will be complaining about the police mistreating and using unnecessary force against them. Does anybody really think that a police officer likes or is not scared answering calls to the Palms Apartments? They put their lives on the line to combat violent crime there for a group of people who they know will not support or stand by them when things turn violent. People need to remember that those cops have families who love them and want them to come home safe at the end of the day. I was told by a very reliable source recently that out of the 256 apartments at the Palms, 255 of the lease holders are single African American females and the 1 other is a hispanic male. 256 apartments with no father or male role model in the house, that's the problem. We'll pour much more money into the Palms Apartments but it will never really change, not for the long term anyway. |

Not trying to justify the situation, but how is a poor, out-of-work, single mother supposed to hold a minimum wage job? Who will watch the kids? Do you have any idea how much day care costs?
The answer is in post #9. |
Maybe that mother should have thought of that before she layed down. |
Amen. I personally thought it was funny (not Haha funny) that the shooting was thought to be in retaliation to a robbery. Stealing from each other wasn't enough, they have to kill each other too. I find it ridiculous that these people blame the police when it is their own children robbing and killing one another. Get a clue folks! Either teach your children better morals, move the heck out of The Palms to give your children a better chance, or prepare to attend more funerals. |
I see. Well, what happened in the past really doesn't matter in the present. The child has a beating heart and is a human being like you or I. He/she didn't ask to be brought into a world of hell. So again, I ask, what should be done in this situation? |

Orlando police Chief Val Demings is planning a long-term crime-fighting strategy in the wake of the killings and plans to meet with residents, spokeswoman Sgt. Barbara Jones said.
As a black female, Chief Val Demings has an enormous amount of power and influence in combatting crime in the minority community, much more than any other Orlando Police chief in the past. The fact that she is a black female takes the race and gender factors off the table. She should let the residents know that her officers will protect them at all cost but that frivilous and unwarranted complaints will not be entertained. Chief Demings has the opportunity to be Orlando's General Petraeus, the question is will she take advantage of it and take control of the violence within her city? |

They get free day care.... |

Hey Urban League - here's a project for you.
this place has been a crime ridden hole for at least the last 20 years. If the residents don't take responsibility and report crimes it will remain just that and no new plan from Val "my husband gave me this job" Demmings will change it.
