Isabella wrote: I don't think there was anything sinister going on in this family. I don't think anyone but the snake hurt this baby. I think it's exactly what it's been reported to be -- a horrific tragedy that no one in the family ever imagined. I DO think the adults are idiots, first, for keeping a snake that size in the first place with small children in the home, and secondly, for not securing the enclosure where the snake was kept. Snakes are heat-sensing -- they will be drawn to "prey" by heat. I would imagine that they, like most parents of small children, left the baby's bedroom door open at night. That child was probably simply the most accessible victim for the snake. It makes me sick to think of this massive reptile strangling that toddler to death. What a horrible way to die! There was a picture of the little girl on an "In Loving Memory Of" t-shirt, and the child is white, although I believe the mother's boyfriend is black. And I read where the mother is pregnant. Can you IMAGINE having snakes that size in a house and bringing a NEWBORN into the home? Bad enough one of them killed a 2-year-old. A newborn would be like bringing a rabbit into the house -- snake could definitely ingest a newborn. Scary to think how brainless some people are. You can see a photo of the mother and her boyfriend at FoxNews.com , THEY ARE BOTH WHITE. And I saw another shot of them on tv news where it looked like the woman is pregnant but could not say for sure. And the man is facing charges.

There's a commonality here that you don't recognize: if humans are but one species of animal, then we can't really criticize humans for doing what humans do for their own survival, any more than we can criticize beavers for doing what beavers do for their own survival. "Pollution" is only in the eyes of the beholder, isn't it? There are a lot of birds that can't build nests in the trees that beavers fell.

We are going to have to create a discussion thread here on topix for stories we read there. More work, but worth it. I bet they just got tired of us beitching about their poor journalism and that was the easiest way to shut us up. Pompano Beach Gail wrote: <quoted text> That makes 2 of us, Pop. This whole case just sickens me. For over a year now I've been trying not to be judgmental, after all it was an accident. But an innocent little girl is dead because of the negligence of two adults. What a horrible way for a child to die and I can't stop thinking about it. I don't know if the parents deserve the death penalty but I do feel they should pay for this!

I don't know if the parents deserve the death penalty but I do feel they should pay for this! The Death Penalty is a joke. It just keeps the criminal alive for years on end, living off the taxpayer dollar while they get 1 appeal after another. 1) Change the Appeal Process to only 1 appeal. It's 1 more than the victim got. 2) After losing their appeal, execution needs to take place within the next 6 months. This gives the criminal enough time to get his/her affairs in order and time to say good-byes to loved ones. Another thing the victim did NOT get. 3) It's a pity the criminal cannot be executed in the same manner he/she used on the victim. Why should a vicious criminal be "put to sleep" like a beloved family pet?

Negligent owners of pets are a major problem and attacks should be followed up on with litigation whenever there is a clear case of negligence. As an example I am sure we have all read about the case of Shaianna Gilkerson, the 2 year old strangled to death by a python in her mothers home. The department of children and families had been aware of the living situation and took no ACTION! Its outrageous! Her father whom found out about his daughters death via the INTERNET, as he was not informed, has taken legal action against the department of children and families, and RIGHTFULLY SO! The case is being handled by J. Scott Gunn, a Fort Lauderdale Personal Injury Attorney. J. Scott Gunn http://www.jscottgunn.com

Scott Gunn http://www.jscottgunn.com Why isn't the father suing the mother for placing the child in harms way? My guess is that she has no money so you are going after the government agency that is funded by MY tax payer dollars. Why didn't the father fight harder to get custody of his daughter? Why didn't he have a closer relationship with his child? There's a reason he learned of the child's death on the internet and not from the mother herself. Obviously he and his family didn't bother to have any relationship with the child.
