C&VB's board allows the executives complete control. To get the board's attention, public funding of this bureau needs to be cut. Of course, the good old boys won't do that as this organization must be allowed to do anything it wants as it is an essential group to the Central Florida economy. Comparing this group's expenditures to a private company is comparing apples and oranges.

So after 23 years as the president of the cvb he gets only 750,000 at his retirement. um... who's his financial advisor. He could have made more in the stock market.

Is this a story? Peeper signs a contracts in 93 & 97 and the great "investigative work" by Garcia comes out now?

How many stories are you guys going to do on the cvb? Is their nothing else going on in Central Florida?

Ax to grind much?

Curious to see the Auditors report. After Osceola County Auditor released her report on the Osceola CVB, the head of the CVB was discharged or should I say his services were no longer required. Many other mismanagement practices were discovered. The CVB was funneling money to an organization a County Commissioner, Ken Smith, is associated with.

There is too little oversight with the Convention and Visitors Bureaus. The public looks at it as it's only tourist money.

Is anyone really surprised by this?
The waste in government is legendary.
The theft of tax dollars goes on 24/7.
I laughed out loud at seeing Martha Haynie's name, the so-called comptroller.
She always covers up the mess.
Remember the destruction of public records at the convention center she presided over?
Federal agents dumpster diving for the Crotty/Haynie coverup.
And yet taxes go up and up and up.
It's time to say NO to the excesses of government.
Cut the salaries at the top - no pensions - no triple dipping like Lawless Lamar - no retirements for elected officials.

Jeepers Creepers Mr. Peeper's. Do you think you ripped off enough money or did you steal some more no one knows about? I hope that's a one time lump sum retirement and not each and every year of your remaining life. Wow, these white collar crooks are just slick as owl poo-poo.

Obviously, you are a product of private schools. You have a reading comprehension problem.

The $700K plus is above and beyond his "earned" retirement. In other words, it is essentially a bonus.

Secondly, it is on top of his $400K plus salary which in itself seems exhorbatant.

Lastly, the majority of the money raised by the group over the last three years is by far contributed by your tax dollars. This raises a question for you: Do you think all public employee's should be entitled to the same program? If not, why?

Thanks for taking care of Popeye. Obviously he is some one on the inside getting the same type of perks and feels that he has to defend it. The Visitor's Bureau wants to keep all of those contracts out of the pubic eye as long as they can, because they are not government. But they sure want all of that government money. That's why the Sentinel didn't report on it earlier. Now the Visitor's Bureau has to report it on their public tax form and it comes out. Popeye just can get anything right today.

Since some Public money is involved here.......seems to me someone should file a class action lawsuit againts him and the board AND file a motion for discovery as relevant to the "personal contracts" these thieves cooked up.

Two responses:

1. IF you CAN do his job, and do DO his job well, you should get that compensation. Your problem is that you failed to convince enough people that you CAN do his job.

2. When ANYONE get this compensation for doing his job well, including car washers, then it is called Obama's Socialism, the kind that destroy businesses gand give others no reason to EXCELL beyond their colleages. The end result is that you have an organization of unmotivated slobs.

Florida is loaded with crooked cops and politicians. If you think this is bad go look up what the Republicans( Ex-mayor Glend Hood and Others) sold the Orlando Navy Base for.Folks the Jewish Pritzker Family of Chicago bought the 1100 acre Base with a lake and almost new buildings for next to nothing. This today is known as Baldwin Park. Folks this was the biggest robbery in Floirda for taxpayers. The Base was worth about 145 million dollars and I believe it sold for around 12.5 million???????? This is just one of many reasons America is screwed up. How about other waste in government and law enforcement? Doesn't the Sheriff have a trial coming up?? HUM !!

Give it up sentinel. Why are you bashing the man and organization that brought you a lot more newspaper-buying local citizens and made Orlando a much bigger destination than Disney alone could have?

Enough with the class warfare, Sentinel. We get that you're jealous that journalists don't earn as much as one of the nation's leading tourism executives. Maybe you should have chosen a different major.

There is absolutely no story here. Peeper was the top executive at one of the nation's largest CVBs, and ran it with distinction. If anything, he was underpaid.

The same goes for the other "he makes too much money" story today about the University presidents. They run some of the largest universities in the country, and drive economic development and job creation in their regions. They deserve every penny they get.

Daily Horoscope for November 23

Aquarius

You may be noticing the effects of Mars in Aquarius now, which will give you the extra strength you need to fight any battles. Unfortunately, Mars does not impart tact or diplomacy as one of his gifts, so try to think before you speak as much as possible. Legal issues can become thorny over the next month or so; employ strategy rather than brute strength to win the day.
