I was sorry to learn of Tom Kneitel's passing. My condolences to his family. I had lost track of K2AES (Tom's amateur radio call) after he left Popular Communications. In 1966 Tom gave me my first opportunity to write for S9 -- a national publication topping its specialty field of CB. I later wrote S9's DX Korner, a monthly column on the topic of shortwave listening, that ran from Sept 1968 to Feb 1976.

I wrote some articles in the 1990's for Tom's magazine, Popular Communications. Although I never met Tom in person and wouldn't even know what he looks like, I could tell by the letters we exchanged that he was a nice person, excited by all things radio. It was nice to have been acquainted with him.

I'm very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. His writings were a huge help to me when I first got into shortwave listening, and he did so much to promote the medium. We've lost someone who did a lot for radio and for the listening hobby. RIP, Tom.

No single person who wrote for and about radio who had more influence with those in the hobby. There are many radio enthusiasts; there are many radio writers, but none have been, are, or will be what Tommy Kneitel was to the hobby. I hear there is no QRM or QRN for him now--nothing but clean signals.
Rest in peace, friend.

I started reading Tom's writings when I was about 10, and later got to know him via phone, as he participated in several national radio talkshows I produced, regarding all things in and around the Radio hobby. Tom was always a wealth of information and speculation, always controversial and intriguing. R I P old pal.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Sagittarius

It's time to muster all your resources and energies and push through to the next level. The harmony between Mars and Saturn will support your efforts. If you need to dig deeper into shared resources or your credit facilities, now's the time to do so. With careful planning and perhaps family support, you can consolidate and somehow find greater security. This is a calculation not a risk though.
