Fired professor stands firm in support of gay marriage

Jeffrey Nielsen believes gay people should be allowed to marry and have children more now than he did in June when the stance cost him his job at Brigham Young University.

This is a Religious school and has no place for Jeffrey Nielsen to express his views openly on Gay Issues. Besides you could not say you support gay marrage in any other staunch religious school either. It is well known that the LDS community stands for family and good moral character, if BYU had allowed this, what kind of message do you think they would be sending to future students? Thank You

How sad for BYU students, to lose a professor who could think. I expect that all classes will soon be taught by computer there. Eat, chew, regurgitate.

That BYU believes in freedom of speech... That BYU is tolerant..... That BYU believes in academic freedom....

Opposing gay marriage and persecuting the gay minority does not in any way equate to 'standing for family and good moral character.' It is, however, shameful..... Shame on the Mormon church.. a cult... and I ought to know as a former Mormon (yes, Missionary and all).

As quoted in the Proclamation of the Family. "We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife."

BYU of course is owned by the LDS Church, anything taught in contrary to the LDS beliefs won't be tolerated.

Well how very authoritarian... Very dictatorial... I am not familiar with the proclamation you mention, but it means nothing to me..

How it should read is "the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between a heterosexual man and heterosexual woman"

and of course there is no requirement to reproduce in order to be married..

Any religion that does not teach and leaders and members practice the gospel of un-conditional and non-judgemental love of Christ, have perverted His tchgs to justify the all to human attitudes of hatred bigotry, and prejudice. Obiviously, the leadership of the LDS Ch and, the ldrs of BYU have no compassion,
no understanding of the principle of the loyal opposition, and have shown themselves to be exactly what all authoritarian religions truely are: Dictatorships. They don't teach spiritual principles for individuals to use to improve their lives, and think independently while doing so, they teach members to blindly obey antiquated dogma created by men who want unrighteous authority over others.

Step right up, ladies and gentleman, we're having a two for one deal on weeded mormons. That's right, you bring in a weeded mormon, and you get TWO, I said TWO toasters. You can't pass up this deal!! Limited time only, void where prohibited.

Weebles,

I believe the "weeding out" will commence with those that have rejected the commandments of God. Like be fruitful and multiply, or judge not that ye be not judged, or love one another.

"what a load of horse crap. the world doesn't need to be replenished. it needs to be weeded out. let's start with the mormons, okay?"

Who knows, that attitude may be just what God is looking for.

You must have a different bible. Oh, I forgot, you do. My God only commands two things: To love him with all of my being, and to share that love with the world. Tall order, but no confusion about exactly what He wants.

How can you love Jesus the Christ if you are unwilling to hearken unto his counsel?

The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth was given in the fictitious creation story (written while the Jews were held captive in Babylon,,,, Genesis is not as old as Exodus or Dueteronomy, or Leviticus)....

It was given to the two people who God created,,, who were supposedly the only ones on the planet (which of course could not be true b/c we know people have been here millions of years longer than 6000BC)....

As we have passed the 6 billion mark, it is absurd to promote the idea that the commandement to replenish the earth is valid..

It's about as replenished as it can get... We cannot even feed and educate the 6 billion here now...

Regardless, companionship by itself is sufficient reason to be married..

BTW, the professor who was fired for using his freedom of speech was hired at the University of Utah... a great school where people are actually free to express their ideas...

His council is the only thing I "hearken" to. He made the rules so simple, even I can understand them. Follow them? Now there is a taller order than any human fill. All we can do is take it one day at a time, and try not to mess it up too badly.

Too bad the rest of us can speak up all we like,*including* in our denunciation of this childish, cowardly school who apparently cried and cried because they couldn't *force* him to think differently.

Funny that firing him hasn't shut him up and has made him more determined.

These idiots in the church bring *ALL* of this on themselves, and who really cares anymore. They have really big mouths and they need to stop acting so babyish and/or evil.

Rob,

Science can prove and disprove everything you've put forth. Good luck with trusting in the arm of flesh. Unless, of course, you know of some immortal scientist.:)

I'm also glad that you are such a fan of freedom. How do you feel about weebles comment above that we should weed out all mormons? Does that ring of freedom?

"His council is the only thing I "hearken" to. "

So you believe in the teaching of Christ that we should, "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

You said, "You must have a different bible. Oh, I forgot, you do."

I have the King James version sitting right here in front of me. That's where I got the words of Christ that I just posted above. I believe in those words, but some would make the judgement that I don't.
