Review: Boyd's Retro Candy Store

1.This woman was upset because her grandson decided to pick up some of our bag stuffing and when I laughed and took it out of his basket at the register and said, "Oh he picked up some of our shred." she insisted I put it in his bag because he wanted it. When she called all upset I offered to refund her for the sucker she said was old. She also said something in our sour area was bad, but she couldn't tell me what. She said she wasn't coming back for a refund and she couldn't remember what else she'd purchased was stale.
2. We are not able to purchase truck loads from the manufacturer to distribute to thousands of stores. We focus on what krogers and the other big retailers don't carry and yet our customers ask for the same items the big retailers carry.
3. Our business has grown tremendously over the last two years. Customers have lots of fun seeing the oldies from their childhood like candy buttons, wax bottles, lips, and fangs. The customer who just entered is raving about the gold mine gum and rock candy and said, "I need to go to the bank and get more money so I can buy more."
The pops we carry are from N. Carolina, Texas, New Jersey and such. 99% are not available other than in the south. We work hard to find them, often driving 3 hours one way. WE DO NOT CARRY CHIPS.
This woman did not complain once in the store, nor did she want anything except to trash our store.

I loved the store and would like the owners to contact me. I too had a few stale items but that is what highlighting and moving product are all about. Overall, I was not excited about how packed the store was when just 6 more people entered. I also experienced a ripped bag ...just a generic zip locked bag but it was suppose to be used to keep my product as fresh as possible until consumption. As far as the workers,a man and woman,were busy and looked over-worked. She was talking on the phone which appeared to be a personal call when the store was packed and he was trying his hardest to keep an uplifted appearance. He kind of lost it and demanded her time. She complied but it was a little late because the other customers seemed to be frustrated. During this financial crisis and empolyment dire straits... maybe, just maybe a minimum wage employee or two would be an asset to this store and in my opinion is exactly what it needs. acorns2oaktrees@gmail.com

Would this Boyd's Store be "related" to Boyd's Drugstore? I remember Boyd's Drugstore from the 1940's.

I have been to this store a few times, and have always had a pleasant experience. I've never gotten anything stale. The employees have helped me a number of times find a particular kind of candy that I was looking for. The store is rather small, but they keep it stocked with a huge variety none the less. I love Boyd's and will definitely be going back.

I have to say we drove from Findlay, OH because I was looking for circus/carnival theme items and was planning on doing a candy "bar." I asked the girl if she had any circus or carnival geared items (looking really for striped packaging). She promptly replied with "I don't know use YOUR imagination." My jaw dropped and we left immediately. I work retail and that attitude is unacceptable!

Is that place still open? I can barely afford gas much less candy.

My wife and I drove an hour to visit the store. It is a small space that is filled with quite an impressive variety of retro candy and some harder to find soda products. The staff member we worked with was friendly and helpful as was the owner. What struck me about this store was that when we were there, two young children stopped in with six cents to buy some candy-and they walked away with a small handful (sharing it). This is a good local store- its not all about the candy or the products that make them feel or taste so good. You cant get that at Walmart. Maybe we sacrifice the long isles and the high ceilings and the multitides of uniformed staff, and maybe its a good trade to make. Go check it out. Say hello, and bring a handful of change.

My kids have been talking nonstop about the Willy Wonka Kazzoozles. I saw one and it looked a little gross but I tried it and it was actually really good! Most stores around here don't carry it but I did find it online at a few stores. The cheapest one was candycentral.com and they had a pretty good selection of retro candy as well. Has anyone else tried or seen the Kazzoozles?

Beware hidden costs in this websites products they wanted to charge me an outrageous price just for shipping. I live in Toledo and have since went to Boyds Candy Store here in Toledo and have paid less for our candy and we also wernt charged for shipping. The owner was very helpfull even looking to see if she could special order candy for my up coming wedding.

I will continue to support our local stores especially in these hard economic times.

Yeah dumbass, if someone digs it up and replies it bumps it to the top, so of course it's still "on here."

I will support Bama and his zillion dollar spending spree. Maybe candy land can get a bailout for fresh bottlecaps and juju bees.
