Of course Obama is 'black' enough

Is Barack Obama "authentically" black? Come on, be real. Is the pope Catholic? Obama made his first campaign trip to this early-primary state over the weekend, drawing about 3,000 people to a rally in Columbia, ...

Obama is an inspiration and an honest and genuine man. We are lucky to have someone of his character running.

I am amazed that the united states is still hooked up on the issue of Race even among educated Blacks. there appears to be a jealousy among Black people when one of them rise to the top. It is the crab pot syndrome.Blacks will prefer to give their votes to Clinton or Edwards.Blacks do have an inferiority complex.

as an Australian person i would like to apologise about our PM and his comments about Barack Obama and his Iraq policy.
the PM should not concern himself with policy candidates in any other country.

he should just focus on running us into the ground

Obama is a good leader and people need to get to know him rather than make their decisions based on the nonsense about his race. And if you have any doubt about Obama's race because his father is an immigrant, you might need to check our history. Black leaders such as Louis Farrakhan, Malcolm X (also known as Detroit Red and El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) and Marcus Garvey to name but just a few, have one thing in common; they all have immigrant parents and/or are immigrants themselves. These facts did not make these great leaders feel any different about their race. They all struggled and fought for the greater good of all people of color anywhere on earth. They stood for justice and the truth.

Sad comments such as those made by state senator - Robert Ford, D-Charleston and others shouldn't be a big surprise because history tells us that black leaders while on slave rescue missions had to threaten the use of deadly weapons such as guns to discourage those who were ready to give up their new found freedom and go back to slavery in the cotton fields. Break the captive chains in your mind Mr Ford...I support Obama 08.

I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity for Obama to be the next president. I am a part of generation "Y" and I expect to assist in every way that I can to help turn the page as Obama suggests. Baby Boomers put us in debt and gave us an illegal. It's time for my generation to rise up and fix these problems. I can't wait to see Obama as president in 2009!!!

It's so amazing to have someone who is walking the talk! Barack Obama is exactly what this country needs - a strong leader who will reunify our country and strengthen our own belief in the American Dream.

If you haven't checked out www.barackobama.com , do so! It is a fabulous resource for undecided voters as well as the grass roots movement to elect Senator Obama as our next president.

He is a breath of fresh air, to quote The West Wing, "Because I'm tired of it: year after year after year after year having to choose between the lesser of who cares. Of trying to get myself excited about a candidate who can speak in complete sentences. Of setting the bar so low, I can hardly bear to look at it. They say a good man can't get elected President. I don't believe that. Do you?"

I think the writer makes a sound point when he states that we really need to wait a little to see what Mr. Obama really stands for. If he is a man of substance he will get beyond the "we need something new" tact and actually provide some detail to his plans. We are all familiar with the failure of Democrats to provide HOW they are going to handle the repurcussions (both near and far term)of exiting Iraq. This has been a weakness. Let's see if Obama decides to provide solutions and plans rather than cast stones...we're all good at casting stones.

Hey, have you all heard - Barack Obama's black! Seriously, does anyone still care about this? The media is pounding all these things about Obama into our collective heads - his ethnicity, his "inexperience," he smokes, how he looks in a bathing suit - that they don't even talk about what has people on this board so excited.

Barack Obama is what Howard Dean could have been to his supporters - he's what John McCain should have been to his supporters - he's what Bill Clinton might have been to his supporters - even JFK comes into the conversation - in short, he's the culmination of everyone's favorite politician who came up just a little bit short.

I think we are at the point with politics that we all wish we could just be given an issue and hear a debate - rather than be given an issue and debate about what's a lie and what isn't. Whether you like Obama's politics or not, that's one thing you can still hang your hat on. He definately seems to be a very honest man who says what he thinks.

I believe it to be sheer ignorance when i hear my fellow brothers and sisters of color looking away from Obama because they think of him as not being "black enough". It seeme as though even we as black people don't accept our own if we don't live up to the stereotypes that society has deemed us with. Just because a black person is well educated it does not mean he is any less black than any other African-American. You don;t have to grow up poor, you dont have to be a gangster and you dont have to have bad credit to be black! besides if all one is looking to make a vote based on how black the candidate is, who running is more black than Obama?

Where would this man be without his White grandparents raising him in a middle class setting?
Why is the press not raising questions about his Muslim background?

The media does not want Obama to be "black enough" because they already support Hillary Clinton. Since he's the closest thing to a threat against her candidacy, Clinton supporters are pulling the "not black enough" schtick. That's all it is.

One thing that everyone has to remember is that when a Black person makes a statement, they do not review it with the entire community before vocalizing. Unfortunately, we are responsible for every comment that a Black person makes regardless of whether or not we agree...

Ummm...they did raise questions. Then those questions were answered with "He went to a Muslim school for a couple years," and was supplemented with "He also went to a Catholic school and public school and several other schools."

And they've also mentioned way more about the way he was raised than any other candidate. I mean, it's so rare these days that you have a presidential candidate who comes from a wealthy background! Wow! You mean, he went to Columbia and Harvard but wasn't raised in the projects? Gee wiz. I suppose next you're going to tell me that George W. Bush has never lived in a trailer park...

"One of his biggest applause lines -- perhaps predictably, in a college town -- was a call for black Americans to 'get over this anti-intellectualism we see in our community sometimes.'"

I know this was taken out of context, but here's the problem with that quote: it does not acknowledge the structural, government-sponsored obstacles that black Americans face (see: unequal distribution of tax dollars to black schools and neighborhoods). As though an attitude of anti-intellectualism is the primary reason why black Americans aren't becoming intellectuals. I'm not positive where I stand on a presidential candidate endorsement, but it is very worrisome to me that Obama would make such a statement about black Americans making an attitude adjustment when there are much more significant educational obstacles.

It seems that for a lot of people, being "black" means being poor, uneducated, and resentful of others' success. Sad.
