Dude, what you are talking about. Get a life. You can’t really think that a state job will make your income what you want it to be or even deserve. It is a secure job that many, many people would love to have. I don’t get you. You go to work, do your job as best you can and then go home. Do you really think that you will ever be rich working for the state? It’s not going to happen and you are kidding yourself thinking that it ever will. I work my ass off maybe same as you and it’s working for me. I do my job and I do it well and I deserve every penny that I make. Point is…….If you or anybody else feel that they are not getting what or think that they are do. LEAVE…..bye bye see ya…..We don’t need a bunch of employee’s crying all the time. In the real world they would have already been gone………

From you "I agree. I'm going to be getting out soon. I'm just building my resume now. I'm going to translate the experience here into more pay in the private sector"

Nice attitude so don't bitch at me.....You are the kind of employee that we don't need"

If you're just going to sit back and moan that things will always be the way they are then you are part of the problem and are actively contributing to the problem with your inaction.

If you aren't part of the solution you're part of the problem.

Rich? Not necessarily. Comfortable and secure? Yes. Absolutely.

I aspire to be in a position in which I can make a difference, however I am not convinced that I'm going to be given the opportunity to do that with the state any time soon. The state of the economy is dictating that my budget needs just won't wait. So, I am left with a choice - Do I stay at a job that I like, working with people that I like and enjoy in hope that something is going to change? Or, do I do what is best for my family, my stress level, and my budget and find another position in which my needs will be met, and my efforts to improve my work environment will be appreciated.

I tell myself that I am "building my resume" as a little trick to keep myself from jumping at an offer. If I am going to make the effort, I might as well shop around for an employer that is going to be a good fit for me. What is the use if I am lured by a better paycheck, if I end up stuck with the same kind of small-minded, bureaucratic tunnel-vision environment that I'm in now?

You say, "If you or anybody else feel that they are not getting what or think that they are do. LEAVE…..bye bye see ya…..We don’t need a bunch of employee’s crying all the time. In the real world they would have already been gone………" Then you say, "Nice attitude so don't bitch at me.....You are the kind of employee that we don't need," when I say that I want to leave. That's funny. You're criticizing me for saying what I think is wrong with the way things work and what I think should be changed by saying that I am basically a crybaby. I believe that, if you detected a note of "whining" then, you were projecting. You say that if I'm not satisfied then I should leave then, criticize me for saying that is what I want to do. Make up your mind.

Also, do not assume that I walk around all day complaining. I go far above and beyond my "job duties" every day in a highly professional manner. I know more about professionalism than most of the senior management. Their most demonstrable skill is blowing hot air. A little like you.

You don't have a ********** clue do you.
If you don't like the state employees here then move to another state. I got a feeling that would make this state a better place.

Some of the states workers have once retired from the same position that they are currently in now. Needless to say, they are getting paid that salary that is posted not to mention the retirement from the same employer for the same job that they did before they retired. Love how they let other people have a chance on moving up within the department.

I have read some of the post. I am not a DMV worker but I understand what y'all are going through. I read the names of the people that are listed with their salaries. Some of the people I know personally. And the one person that I know he is some timey. When I mean some timey, I am for real. Sometimes he will talk to you and then other times he feels that he is above everybody.
But it is ashame that you have all those people making 50,000.00 and up and are not qualified. To me that is a waist of money.
I hope that what ever is going at DMV it will get resolved and the ones that are not qualified to be in their position be demoted and or terminated. But the only way that will every happened y'all must fight. Don't just come on here and voice your opinions. Show some action. Boycott. Do something to show them that y'all mean business. I promise you that if you do just that somebody will hear you and start pulling files. Trust me I've seen this happened before. It was an up hill battle but the battle was worth the fight. Yes some got killed in the process (just a figure of speech) but it was all worth it.
Let me tell you what happened. This one department where I use to work walked out. They had to prove they meant business. I mean the whole department consisted of about 12 employees. They all got together. Talked about their plan. United together. They came to work one day as always. They left for lunch and never came back. Yes, ALL 12. I was their when it happened. You should have seen the higher-ups faces. They didn't know what to do. Well, this situation got to the home office. They stepped in and started firing people (higher-ups that is). Because they were saying for a whole department to walk out like this something had to be going on. Of course they were able to speak to some of them and they told them why they walked out. With that said they revamped alot of things.
So again y'all have to ban together and have a plan on that you are going to do about this. Just talking about it is not enough. It takes ACTION. If only a few people take action nothing will get done but if the majority take action then that will open their eyes and trust me something will be done about it.

My State Retirement check is 12,000 a year. try living on that!
THAT'S IT!!!!!!! 12,000.00, That comes to 1000.00 per month. How can anybody live off that. That is ashame. So I see why they've gone back to work. Need more money to put food on the table.

First off I'm not an idiot! But why does DMV pay a Application Analyst II $58,000 and DPS only pay $2,000 more to a Senior Application Analyst. The scale doesn't make since. Goes to show DMV will pay good and on the high side for some people but not all. And I left because I was sick of it.

Big surprise that your name is Rich Boy and you're making a comment like that. Some people are actually raised with a sense of civic duty & feel like there is some merit in serving to protect the interest of state residents.
But how could anyone expect a "monkey-grubbing" jerk to understand... someone who could care less about the state employees who make it possible for you to have paved roads, be protected from criminals, be protected from health and environmental pollutants, be protected against spoiled food (or food that's been tampered with), protected against terror threats and hurricanes and hazardous materials spills...
Shall I go on?
I find it so funny that people want to point the finger at state employees saying the effort ad pay is worthless when they fail to realize that with out these government employees you wouldn't be able to have all the various things that make your life LESS worrisome. Do you want to go earn you money then spend your evenings policing your own streets... after you've built them... after you've done studies and imposed the proper regulations for safe construction and upkeep of your house/food/water system... EVEN THE AIR YOU BREATHE?
You'll happily vote for a political candidate who promises the world then expects the state employees to sweat and toil to carry out those promises but when it comes to getting a pay increase to... say, keep up with the cost of the gas needed to put in their cars to even GO TO WORK... they're offered a 1% increase.
That's the amount on the table this year and even that was in danger at one point. You think you'd stay around for long with only a 1% increase per year.
For once how about just opening your mouth to say "thank you".
If you don't like it or think it's worhtless... take all those dollars you've been hording and go visit one of these third world countries that don't have paved roads, clean water, health care or food protection.
That would be one less jerk that our state employees have to worry about trying to take care of... GOOD RIDDANCE!

Get a real degree and maybe some ingenuity, you might qualify to work in the private sector.
If took two seconds to look, you'd see that the majority of state jobs DO require a MINIMUM of a bachelor's degree. Any hopes of making more money require Masters and PHDs. Try researching next time instead of relying on your assumptions... that's what intelligent adults do!

I know a woman tht leave, goes to the tanning bed about 5 miles away from where she works, stays in the tanning bed for 30 minutes and then goes get lunch.
If this is even true, it's the exception rather than the rule.

Just ask employees at one state agency I know who have a computerized personnel tracker that even requires them to sign out that they are going to he bathroom.

A woman I know got verbally reprimanded because the personnel tracker said she was at lunch for 62 minutes... 1 hour and TWO minutes. The personnel computer program takes about 60 seconds to update and she got called into her boss's office. She'd been working for the agency for 10 years WITHOUT ever having been "late". She'd even donated her sick leave during that 10 years because she'd taken less than 7 days of sick time over 10 years.

(Sick leave maxes out at 45 days... If you don't use it you lose it unless you choose to donate to others who might need it. You're allowed to donate to state sick fund so someone going through cancer or extended illness can use that donated time to recover and not lose their job due to illness.)

Back on topic, every agency has protocols to track employee whereabouts but they all differ and before you comment you might want to figure out what system is in use for her agency.

By the way - have you ever considered the possibility that the woman has chosen to combine her break times with her lunch time to do this and that her boss has agreed to that? Some people don't need smoke breaks because they don't smoke... others don't have jobs that allow time for breaks - they just work straight through that 7.5 or 8 hour day.

If your story is true, report the woman. I bet that if her supervisor - or agency head - thought she was violating lunch or leave rules, she wouldn't have the job much longer. But supervisors in state government don't have ESP either... just like the private sector... bosses might not know unless the employee gets caught in the act.

If you look into it, I'm sure you'll find your impression wasn't correct.

Regardless, is it very fair to classify the rest of state government and the employees within with that same broad brush stroke and false assumption - based on the actions you "believe" one person is taking... I know plenty of state workers who come in early and leave late and get called out as part of emergencies... like the Grainiteville chlorine train wreck... at 2 am or on the weekends or even Christmas Day when I'm sure you're home with your loved ones. Remember the state employees that have to stay behind when residents are evacuated during a hurricane, those that have to go in after people to rescue and repair when tornadoes touch down.

They do this because that's what the job requires. It's all part of what's needed to take care of the rest of the people living in the state, visiting the state or even driving through the state.

And how about turning that view back at yourself? Have you NEVER talked to your boss and taken care of a personal errand during work hours? Glass houses and stones... you know what they say.

Answer: State Highway Department Workers.
I've actual seen this when I was duck hunting; they were pulled up in the woods, and were all sleeping good. Guess they were taking their after lunch nap. 37.5 hours my Butt none of them work that many hours a week. The State employees are the worst workers in the State, and everyone knows it. I would be ashamed to tell someone I worked for the State, I wouldn't want anyone to know I was that sorry of an individual.
Rex, you are ignorant! I am a state employee, and I reside on the low side of the public list. I just finished working a week of doubles to get a new SAN on my network. As a matter of fact, I got to work yesterday at 8:30 am and got back home this morning at 4:30. So you don't know what you're talking about.

Well you see, in the private sector, you can be fired for being a lazy, shiftless, do nothing. In the State agencies you practically have to slaughter a baby on your desk in front of the public to get fired.
In the private sector, if I produce/sell 1,000,000 units, I get paid in accordance with my production. In State jobs, I get paid the same amount whether I produce 50,000 units, or whether I sit at my desk and surf porn all day.
There are a lot of differences between the two sectors, so they are not really comparable.
I don't kow what private company you worked for that would fire you for being lazy. Go to Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC and look at how many lazy, shiftless, do nothing employees are there, mainly in sr. management!!!!!
