I have chronic pain from psoriatic arthritis and have had for 3+ years. I take one prescription (NSAID) and follow non-drug regimines that work to relieve the problem such as chiropractics, orthotics, and yoga. The pill clinics feed the needs of a VERY FEW patients who really need them. Most are either druggies or if they have chronic pain are looking for the quick fix rather than anything that may take effort or dedication. Don't waste your life going through it wasted.

I too, have psoriatic arthritis and have suffered from it for 24 yrs. Nsaids are hard on my stomach but I take them along with prilosec. Not once have I ever considered narcotics, and I just can't fathom the reason those who do other than they like the buzz, plain and simple. Having the condition we have is quite painful daily, but as you stated, don't waste your life going through it wasted.
Whoever heard of taking methadone for Morton's neuroma? What a crock, my mother suffers from those. They excise them and another appears, but she sure doesn't take methadone for them. Plantar faciitis? Pffft, I have had that now for oh, let me see, about 20 yrs. and never considered methadone even though the orthotics don't help much. Don't you just love the dependant/addictive nature of these people and their inability/unwillingness to admit to such?

I try and play my hand the best I can with the cards that I'm dealt. The addiction thing is just a drain on individuals and society. I've been there and done that. I have a list of people that weren't as lucky as those of us that can contribute to this forum because they're six feet under.

Well, I know that the pain management clinic here can be both good and bad. Remember the friend with all of the physical problems that I talked about a while back??? He was referred to the pain clinic here, and quit after the first visit because of the number of pain meds they wanted to put him on.
However, I also have a grandma who went there for injections in her knees, and loved it. I also have an aunt who went there, was prescribed methadone and several other prescriptions,(neurotin, etc., not sure what all she was on) and something didn't sit right with her. She lost the appropiate oxygen level in her brain, put a shoe in the microwave, a raw chicken in her dog's food bowl, and took something prescribed to a boy living with her, and ended up in the hospital. Needless to say, she was kicked out of pain management and was actually given enough methadone for a 3 week detox from 60mg/day to nothing. It's just hard to tell how someone is living, or what their intentions are, and that makes it hard on doctors. I wish pain management would get training concerning addiction, and behaviors. Not that none do, I'm sure there are some that do, I just wish it was required.
That's why they're controlled substances. Or they're supposed to be...

My opinion is that there certainly isn't enough controlling going on. If they paid as much attention to the deaths from these pill mills as they do counting the money made from them, they wouldn't allow the damn things to open...

The last thing pain sufferers need is a speech on the morality of using pain relief medicines. Why should I suffer through life? I have graduated from college, raised a family, paid my taxes, saved for retirement, voted in electrions, etc. I have done everything that my country has required of me, I have been a devoted worker since my first paper route at 9 years old. I have contributed to the moral fabric of this nation ten time more than most and I do suffer from pain every day of my life. I guess I should just quit my job, declare bankrupcy, and live off welfare and social security disability because without relief from the debilitation pain that I go to bed with and wake up with I can not be productive. I don't get "high" of "buzzed" not do I want to. I have asked the multitude of physicians that I have seen to prescribe anything else that will ease the pain. Some people must try to survive with chronic pain and remain deserving of the benefits of this country and its access to medical treatment without a self rightous pin head deciding what is good for me!

You Dont even know what pain is.. I have multiple herniated discs in my back and neck.. I have two kids so I have to work to support them.. I had surgery of two of the discs and they had to go in 7 times to get it what they called right and im in more pain now than when I started cause of them. I hate doctors but unfortunatly to have any quality of life I have to live with them...I would love to trade you pain anyday of the year and see how fast you run to the doc to get on pain meds.. There are people that need the meds to have any quality of life.. Yes there are also junkies that get it just to get high but others just do it to survive.. That is why pain clinics were created..
You have no clue what pain is my friend..

Let me tell you something buddy I have had neck pain for two years and have never had depend on pills as my crutch. I leaned on god...Pills after a period of time will damage your internal organs if you don't overdose first. A real doctor would tell you that. These quack doctors are not concerned about your health just about the dollar. If you are in that much pain get the help you need from a doctor that will try to help you and not cover up your ailment with pills. Staying on the pills may help you, however then you have added another problem {addiction}..Which is a far bigger demon then the pain.
LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING BUDDY.. I have herniated discs in my back, and 3 in my neck that the doctors tried to fix.. They had to go in 7 times and I am in more pain now than I ever was before I started all the surgery's.. I have tried their surgery,, their shots,,, and everything they have but nothing has ever worked. THe only thing that does work is pain meds...
I am also a Christian, I do rely on God but for some reason he doesnt take my pain away.. I guess it is just my thorn I am meant to have.. Even the pain meds dont take it all away.. They just make it bearable.. So dont go using God as a reason not to take meds that a doctor gives me.. I have been examined by more surgeons that you can count and they have all said there isnt anything else they can do.. My left arm is almost useless and gets worse all the time..I type with one hand most of the time cause I cant hardly use my left hand after what the doctors did to me.. I cant even sue them for it cause the papers you sign before surgery like that,, eliminates everything they do if they mess up.. You sign saying they arent responsible..

I love God and I go to church, I pray daily that he will take my pain away. I know he can but I dont know why he doesnt.. I have just learned to accept it after 14 years of going through this. Some people need it to have any quality of life at all. You dont know what pain is my friend..

And I pray that you never find out.

i know there is a nigerian pain clinic that won't take insurance and makes you go to 1 certain pharmacy and anyone can go in there and complain of a pain and he will drug you right on up without any real exam. One of my husbands coworkers goes there and there is nothing in pain about him. He just likes narcotics. I wonder how they get away with it?

PP, I truly feel that a pill mill is deemed so because of the number of addicts feeding their addiction by going there. There's a difference from an office where a dr. is making an attempt to abide by the law and help people without feeding addiction and a pill mill. And no, all doctors offices aren't pill mills. Ask an addict who gets a script, they know what dr.s to go see and what dr.s not to.
:Let me tell you what I am 52 an only went to the dentist and geonologyst my entire life. Now I have taken 2 huge fall and reptured 2 disc and severe pain in my back legs and hips.
