Anyone else notice how bad the service at DQ is in Mathis? I have to say I have never experienced such rudeness at another restaurant. I also noticed, as I sat and ate my ice cream, that none of the employees spoke to each other, and I never saw one person smile. Who is the manager there? Well, no one is a manager, but someone is paid to have the position. A real manager would motivate their employees to be corteous and would greet the customer themselves with a smile.

I would have to agree with you, Satirical. I have been going to the DQ in Mathis for the last 15 plus years and I think I can count on one hand how many times I have been greeted. Matter of fact, I stopped going there because of the service. Is the lack of personality on these peoples part due to their age, young and old? It seems that the young employees have not been taught the value of a customer and the older employees lack the desire to be there, as if they are just waiting on their retirement plan to happen. Not to mention that it is so dang cold in there that you can’t enjoy your meal, by time you get down to your last bite of food your to cold to even think about enjoying a blizzard, the one thing DQ is known for.
Don’t even get me started on the Sonic in this town, just thinking about the service there makes my blood pressure go up.
Van’s is even going downhill fast, as their prices go up, their quality of food goes down. It is almost appalling to me for them to ask me to not throw my soda can away, if that is the case, empty my soda into a cup for me and keep the can behind the counter where is belongs.
We need something new in this town, like a good old fashion dinner with good old fashion cooking and the personalities to match!!

Uhuh Mighty M you are on the right track. I wanted to open a place like that when I first moved here. Home cooked food like homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast, freshly made sourdough bread for hamburgers, po' boys etc. Too bad I couldnt find the backing for it.
I don't have a problem with Sonic but I will agree with your comments about DQ's employees. Only one time did an employee of DQ cracked a lil smile and it was cuz I was being sarcastic and they were doing the same lol

I ate at Van's yesterday
ohhhh i love their shrimp platter!!
the price is great for all the big shrimp, french fries, hush puppies and a lil lil salad lol
Their coating on the shrimp is so good and not soggy like Smolik's fried shrimp.
But i do love Smolik's grilled shrimp!
Goes to the fridge to eat my leftovers lol

Well I love to go to D.Q, It has a lot better service than some of the other places I have been too.
And I have always been treaded right. D.Q is number 1 on my list

I could almost eat at Smoliks everyday (which I think I did when I was in high school) if they were open everyday!!! Mike and Gale Smolik are such great people.
As far as Van's goes, it is probably one of the last places I would eat, like I said earlier, the food is going down hill and now the place is too hot to sit there and eat your food. You would think with how much they charge you for your food and the fact that Alma is OVER paid by the county she could afford to turn down her AC to a comfortable setting...I'm just saying...

I dont actually know how much she gets paid but working for the county and owning a business are two different things.
Shame ya don't like the food. The shrimp is out of this world. Yea it was a bit hot in there but think about the poor cooks in the back!!
With this economy who can afford to crank down the ac at home, let alone a business with an oven fryers and grills going!
I won't eat in a place that is hot I refuse to eat and sweat at the same time lol I will walk out and I've yet to walk out of Vans.
I see cars in front of Vans all the time so they must be doing something right. If they didnt I dont think they would still be in business.

Kinda sounds like this is more of a personal thing between you and the owners of Vans,
No, I do not personally know either one of them so please dont think I am a friend backing them up.
Try the Shrimp Plate!!

nothing personal, I just get tired of having to settle for less just because this is Mathis...but maybe when the weather is cooler and I get that small loan approved to be able to afford to take my family out to eat at Van's, I might try the shirmp plate.

A chinese restaurant would be awesome, just not a buffet one. I love to sit down and order something and hope I ordered the right thing...lol
This town has the room for so many different things, I don't understand why those other things don't take the chance and come here. I would totaly LOVE an Olive Garden here, I would be it's "biggest" fan.

ohhh I'd go for a Boat n Net here lol
I truly think any new place to eat would make it in Mathis. I could go for a Golden Corral where they have a bit of everything!

Anything different for sure, hopefully with I-37 someone will take a chance on Mathis' desire for new cuisine. It looks like plenty of people stop and dine at new truck stops. Keep your fingers crossed.

DQ is an awesome franchise. Someone could make alot of money if they opened up another one with decent service. Because the service has sucked at that DQ for 15+years, but they've got a monopoly on Mathis, so what do you expect.
