Man killed in Ontario police shooting identified

This sounds a lot like a "suicide by cop" scenario. If the police tell you to put your hands up and you instead reach for a gun you know you are probaly going to die. It sounds like this is exactly what he wanted to happen.

Another suicide by cop sounds like....

Yep. That's the "serve" part of protect and service.And fine service it was. Good job, officers.The right person died that day.

Unless there is an independent witness, "sounds like" is meaningless; like asking OJ if he did it.

Get the facts first before making a judgement!

The original article stated that there was an independent witness who verified police accounts.

SGT Marco Salgado was an outstanding Soldier who set the EXAMPLE for what a Non-Commissioned Officer should be, and I feel a deep sense of loss knowing this happened. I have countless examples of how he would go out of his way to help his Soldiers. He was the type of Soldier who made me feel better just by BEING there, because to know he was there meant my other Soldiers would be taken care of. Think of that before you try to dishonor his memory, or speak flipantly regarding the righteousness of this tragedy.

Marco Salgado was my dads friend. My Dad has only good stories about him. War Vet. Cops are just too quick to pull the trigger. R.I.P In our Prayers

Marco Salgado lived next door to me. He was a very nice individual who unfortunately was in the wrong side of town with too many beers in his belly. I heard that someone said that he had a gun in his waistband, perhaps he did. I believe that the police could have diffuse this situation totally differently. For example: why is it that the police had to use a real bullet instead of a rubber bullet. Mr. Salgado did not point the gun at any one and he did not have to be shot twice. One shot to the legs would have been preferable. The police is not trained to shoot people to disable them, they seem to have been trained to shoot and kill and that is exactly what happened. The police shot an innocent man, a gentle man with too many beers in his belly.
Marco was my friend and I'm sorry for him and for the people that decided that killing him was better than disabling him with a shot to the legs.

To Machado,you do not know all the facts. Please don't pass judgment on a man that you never met. Marco was a very close friend of mine, perhaps the day that he was killed he might have had too many beers in his belly. If the cops did tell him to raise his arms and he in fact did reach towards his waistband, that is still not a good enough reason to shoot. I'm sure that the police have better tactical ways of dealing with drunk individuals. Perhaps they could have shot him with rubber bullets or with a real bullet to the legs.
Those are just perhaps. All I know is that my friend is gone and you will never know the gentle soul that he truly was. So please do not post comments like the one that you've posted, because you never knew him and what he was about.

To Wobbles, you are an Ahole. By saying that the right person died today you are truly leaving your self open for discussion as to what type of man you really are. I knew Mr. Salgado. He was my next door neighbor. He was a very nice man. A caring man. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The police could have shot him with rubber bullets, tazer gun, but they decided that since he did not want to obey what they were saying and yet we don't know that Mr. Salgado understood what he was being told, that they might as well kill him. And now we have you proclaiming a victory for a department that goes beyond the call of duty. Keep your comments to yourself Mr. Wobbles, you did not know my friend and the right person did not die yesterday. I can give you a list of individuals that are in this planet that surely deserve to be put to death for the atrocities that they are committing. Please keep your comments to yourself.

The Detective that shot Mr. Salgado is my brother and is a well respected officer within the Ontario Police Department. He has received numerous accolades and merit awards for his service to the community. It is unfortunate that Mr. Salgado made poor decisions on Wednesday that led to his untimely death. Police are trained to shoot and kill and shooting someone is to protect themselves or other innocent bystanders from life-threatening situations. Mr. Salgado clearly had what multiple witnessess believed to be a gun tucked in his waistband and after repeatedly disobeying officers commands, he reached for the item in his waistband and that is when my brother took appropriate action. I'm sorry for the family and friends of Mr. Salgado for their loss, but under the circumstances, I am relieved that it is my brother that is alive. I'm sure all the positive comments about Mr. Salgado's military service are warranted and I thank him for what he did for our Country.

Marco was my cousin. He was a gentle soul and a good man. He probably made the wrong choices with a few beers in him, but he did not deserve to die that day! Police brutality seems to be ok with aholes like Wobbles. David, I am glad your brother is alive today, but I hope he never gets a good night sleep ever again and I hope every time he closes his eyes, he sees my cousin's face for ever. I hope there is an investigation because the police could have shot him in the legs to shock him, but not to kill him.

Sorry for the lost man, Sgt. Salgado was my buddy in the 40th INF. Division out of Los Alamitos,Ca. I'm going to try to get more info on the funeral to pay my respects to the Family. He was a good soldier and a humble one too. I can't imagen him doing that but I'm pretty sure the investigation will tell us. Fyi to everybody making nagative comments if you have nothing positive to say don't say nothing at all. Especially any forum geek that never have serve in the U.S. Arm Forces Hooooah!!!!

drunk guy reaching for a gun in his waist come on these officer's also have to protect them selve's they also have family's it's unfortunate the guy got killed but you got to remember guns and alcohol are very dangerous mixed together. it sound's like the guy wanted to be killed.
