Pit Bulls--End of a Reign of Terror?

no.... really the only person looking bad and ignorant in here is you for just sitting back and not doing a damn thing about the pit ban.

People are so uneducated about pitbulls. Look up some facts, the most dangerous dog in America isnt the pitbull, its the german shepherd, but that dog doesnt get half the bad rap as pitbulls. Its true pitbulls were originally bred as fighting dogs, first against bears, then against other dogs so they do have an aggresive nature. But an interesting fact is that when pitting dogs against each other the owners/handlers of the dogs were right there to stop the fight if one was seriously injured or to stop the fight and an "insane" dog that just "snaps" as pitbulls are so often refered to as doing would not be acceptable in this circumstance otherwise they would attack and harm their handlers as well. Dogs that did that were not tolerated and were killed. So the tendancy for pitbulls to attack humans is actually much much lower than most large dogs, its just everytime it happens theres a media frenzy to publicize the event. Sure some pitbulls still do attack people, but they are probably being antagonized or have very irresponsible owners.

Banning pitbulls isnt the key to stopping this from happening, they can just go buy a rottweiler or a german shepherd instead and still have a dangerous animal. Why not place the blame where it needs to be, not on the dog but on the owner, or the person who was attacked.

And another thing...do some research before making yourself look like an ass claiming that a dog is inherantly evil when you dont fully understand the history of the breed.

So I look Ignorant because I stood up to the City Council, with numerous e-mails, complaint letters, and even an appearance at their last meeting??? Please before you begin to call some one else ignorant for supposable "not" doing anything take a look in the mirror. If i am correct, you moved out of the city, thats sure doing something about it.

In response to every ones opinion, take a look at the # 1 fact in all of these "attacks", they all have happened in the highest crime area's in town. that alone should pin point that its not the dogs as much as the owners who have raised these animals. You raise your dog to be vicious, regardless of its breed it will be vicious. You raise a dog to listen, and obey then it will listen and obey. Pit bulls, and the supposed "pit Bulls" that have attacked are not the issue, its the owners whose ignorance led the dog to attack.

PS. Not being able to spell just goes to show your overall intelligence and education level, thats all i really dont care that my 5 year old brother has better grammar and spelling techniques then you.

Now, to the topic at hand.
Pit bulls are powerful dogs. Like Rottweilers, Mastiffs, Dobermans, etc. they are not the dogs for people who don't have the time for them. In fact, the same can be said for any dog.
Dogs are a by-product of the environment from wich they are raised. The first 8-10 months are especially critical in forming the dog's personality in its adult years. Mistreatment, abuse, lack of proper socialization skills early on are difficult to change (if at all possible) in the adult years.
Too many dogs are put down simply because the owner was "to busy" to see to the formative period of time in the early months and first 2 years.
Pit bulls are no different. With proper attention, training, socialization, and rewarding a pit bull is no more likely to go nuts for no reason than any other breed.
Owners who allow (or worse, promote and encourage) their pets to enter the "Red Zone" are all but guaranteeing that the dog will someday do damage sure to bring human and financial tolls.
I have seen and watched too many well behaved Pit Bulls, Rottys, Shepherds, & Mastiffs to just dismiss the breed as being "dangerous".
One only has to look at the owners in the vast majority of cases that do make the news to see where the bulk of the blame belongs.

nick i agree almost 100% with you also, except for one thing. pit bulls were bred originally for fighting. they were bred between bull terriers and mastiffs to make the strongest and most tolerant dog possible, and they are. but i hate everyone that says well they were bred for fighting so its in their blood. are you telling me that when they are being bred they know that they are supposed to fight? no i own 3 pits and they are the most loyal and intelligent dogs i have ever had.
but seriously THANK YOU, finally there is someone who shares my exact opinion. everyone wants to ban them just because its the easiest way and no one wants to do any research. look at new york and california for example they ADOPT OUT PIT BULLS and have absolutely no problems with them.
