Almost Heaven kennel fails in appeal of license denial

The state secretary of agriculture this week upheld a ruling denying a 2009 kennel license to Derbe ''Skip'' Eckhart, the embattled owner of Almost Heaven Kennel in Emmaus .

Headlines say Skip fails in appeal ... then a few paragraphs later we read "Eckhart has 30 days to appeal Wolff's decision to Commonwealth Court, but must follow strict rules ... " and that his attorney says they most definitely will appeal.

When will this all end???!!! and why are there still over 300 dogs at his kennel?

Reporting by Bill White is one of the only things making it worth while for me to read the local newspaper. He is a true report. Not afraid to go after the truth and hold scumbags like skip Eckhart up to publicly acceptable standards. If it were not for his reporting, this guys appeals would be handled silently behind closed doors. Helps me to keep believing that justice is still alive in this world.

I really don't think this will ever end with Almost Heaven. Skip is determined to continue doing business.

Gov. Rendell stated in a letter to Oprah that was read on her show about puppy mills that he would personally shut them down, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO THIS GOV. RENDELL? I'ts been long overdue. Also give some credit to the people who have had the guts to go to court and stand up against this scum bag, take Eckhart's threats, and not back down, they are not getting paid to report, or testify, they are doing for the welfare of these dogs who are left there suffering. I think those who have dogs from there who suffered harm should be compensated for all the damage this Money Hungry Low Life has caused.

My brother and family always had dogs in their home from the time they bought their home about 30 some years ago. After the passing of their last Shepherd from old age, their son decided he wanted a Doberman and a Shepherd. He purchased the Doberman from Eckhart 2 years ago this month. He believed all the lies Eckhart put in his head. After bringing this puppy home and chasing it around to keep it from eating everything, crate training it, cleaning up after them so they would not eat their own poop, and then trying to get whatever they did get into their mouth while you were cleaning up. Can you just imagine doing this for almost 2 years of a dogs life. They even bought muzzles and the dog chewed through them, and yes they were put on right, but there was no stopping this dog. They spent THOUSANDS in Vet bills to try and save this dog life. They gave this dog every shot at life they could only to loose him this past Monday. Our family is heart broken over this. Reasons why dogs do this is because of a disease know as Pica. Who knows how this dogs parents were taken care of while at Almost Hell, or the litter of pups he came from. The Doberman would have been 2 years old this May, spent every 6 months of his life having intestinal surgery because of blockages from the things we could not stop him from eating. Bottom line is after all the pain and suffering you brought this dog, we hope you feel the same behind bars.
