Won't they take a different route? Especially if they fall into the categories they are looking at or had a few drinks on the way. Hope it works anyways.

They can use the "safety" ploy all they want. It all comes down to the state making money on the backs of these folks who come to our town and boost our economy. If it were me, I'd go spend my money somewhere else.

I HATE the fact they are stopping people for no good reason what happend to needing reasonable cause. I ride my friedns ride we all are insured have proper lic or permits some bikes may be louder some are faster but WTF leave US alone we are bringing MONEY into upstate NY when every one is feeling the crunch in the ol wallet. OK now with that being said are they going to stop all the cars for the Lake George car show if not you better be ready to have alot of angry bikers. I go to both events so trust me i will be one to start complaining. Do something better like pull drunks over specially on I-87

Maybe the Americade folks should look to New Hampshire. They actually like the bikers there. Mutual respect and no hassles as long as you don't get too crazy. If New York lost the taxes on the million dollars, or more that is spent during Americade they might show a little more courtesy.

Why don't we just destroy the small business men in Lake George a little more. This way we can tax the people that live here to make up for the lost revenue.

Cops hate it when people act in groups like bikers do. It's a threat to their power. Bring back the CB culture!! Pigs!

This is a great start for motorcyclist safety and am glad to see the police cracking down on "novelty helmets" and hopefully loud pipes as well. I am a motorcyclist who enjoys riding, living, and my peace and quiet. Thank you.

Thank you William "Nanny" Sprague for protecting those fool hearted motorcyclists from themselves (selectively I might add). I am a firm believer in Capitalism too.

I am concerned about how many people just don't seem to mind a vehicle specific checkpoint. I am especially concerned at the number of simpletons who encourage this, and think it is a good idea. Sprague doesn't deserve his badge, and New York doesn't deserve the revenue Americade generates.

Is it the vehicle specific part or the fact that great numbers of motorcyclists blatantly disregard the law relative to legal helmets and noise restrictions and can be penned in like lemmings while doing so.... I also ride and have a legal helmet in all 50 states no matter the law office and ever bit of my vehicles (car and motorcycle)are also legal, novel. Pay my medical insurance bill and everyone elses, or put tattoo DNR on your forehead and I'm game for no helmets, but it doesn't work that way....

I have ridden for 25 years and I believe in wearing full gear (leathers, full face helmet and all). I would prefer that those who wear inadequate gear be ridiculed by their peers instead of compliance checked by the "Highway Hall Monitor", but as you said...."it doesn't work that way" It's bigger than insurance rates Jay, but few people see reasoning beyond their paycheck. Sprague doesn't deserve his badge because he obviously can't think for himself. I mean by his (Sprague's) logic, the statistics which show that more crime is committed by particular ethnic groups should warrant checkpoints specific to those ethnic groups (to ensure they haven't committed a crime). After all everyone knows that if we could lower crime rates that your homeowners insurance would be lower as well.

Great reply, well written. What else can be done to quiet my neighborhood and save my dumb friends lives anything done by the "pigs" will be construed as following statistics, or whatever, but maybe they are just doing what we are paying them to do or not. I don't know but I just continue wishing the police would have more stones and start to enforce all vehicle laws and not just watch vehicles role by with blatant violations. Are they allowing tragedies on our highways by not pulling over "novelty helmets" and loud pipes or do they have, no stones, no stones at all...
