There is no closed season for coyotes in the state of Ohio (means you can hunt them all year), just need to follow local ordinances. For more info go to the ODNR website.

Coyotes are dogs, kind of. Maybe what's his name that shot his dogs can perform his community service by shooting coyotes.

Coyotes are in every county of Ohio. I see them on occasion around here, and probably once a week can hear them out my back door.

Or the old lady who killed the deer with her broom.

I can see them taking about cats, but I wonder what size dog has anything to fear from a coyote? Can they take out a golden retriever, black lab, or german shepherd?

A coyote can take down an animal more or less 30lb; a pack of coyotes can take down a large animal like a deer. I figure toy-size dogs are fodder for the beast...so they are useful for one thing.

See! Even coyotes have enough sense NOT to run out into traffic.

Coyotes are impressive. They are reviled in nearly every state and somehow manage to thrive in all but one. Ok, as of a couple of years ago Delaware claimed they had no coyotes but we know that's not true.

People need to be sensible. Coyotes are opportunistic hunters and scavengers. They don't often hunt in packs so larger pets are generally safe. Coyotes tend to be very skittish and won't pick a fight they can't win. So your chocolate lab is OK. Your Jack Russel terrier not so much, although a fiesty little dog can often scare a much larger coyote off. If you let your cats outside regularly they might be smart enough to elude a hungry coyote.

The best thing you can do is seal up your garbage and hide any sources of food. That includes keeping track of your smaller pets. Coyotes aren't going to come around unless there's something worthwhile. Be smart and the coyotes will leave you alone.

I have read all the comments. I live in Bracken County Ky on A 1100 acre farm. Coyotes will travel in "packs" because I have seen it with my own eyes while checking on my cattle. I have a large German Sheperd and he saw a coyote so he went to investigate. When he reached the lone Coyote there were Seven coyotes that were hiding that jumped him. He did manage to get away. Coyotes will kill cats or any dog in the spring especially to feed their young pups. Coyotes are wild animals who do not fear man nor do they have ANY natural predators. But they are to be feared and not trusted. They WILL kill your dogs or cats if they have the chance. Don't feed your animals outside at nite. Feed them in the morning. Keep a light on your dog if he is tied outside after dark. And NEVER approach a coyote, after all it is a wild animal.

I can imagine what a coyote can do to dog...I had a raccoon kill my terrier years ago right here in the middle of Cincinnati..not suburban area. And I agree to leaving the food out for outside pets, that's what I did when my dog was killed and I wondered how a 10 lb terrier could eat so MUCH every night!! So yeah they will smell ANY food , garbage, etc. Like a possum or other animals, I call them God's clean-up crew..lol! Coyotes are cool animals, but yeah they are wild so gotta be careful. I'm an animal lover and have a cute little Maltese, but I never leave him out alone.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Pisces

You should have a lucky break today when fate steps in and takes a hand. For instance, a situation may seem to be heading for disaster when you're suddenly bailed out in ways you would never have imagined. However, this doesn't mean you can take foolish risks in the hope that things will work out all right because there's no guaranteeing that they'll do so automatically.
