The Lewis County deputies being giver tasers?
That's like giving Barney Fyfe more than one bullet.
Leave such things to the State Police.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe a few of the frequent flyers would have more respect and stop beating their wives, taking bath salts, and snorting their children's medication if some of them got some Taser Treatment. If you don't agree, then I'm talking about you!!

I guess a cop that ain't man enuff to handle such people might need a tazer, but one worth his "salt" certainly wouldn't. If he needs that, he ought to find another line of work. Tazers and pepper spray should be last resorts. Let's see now--how long have the cops been around here? Have they needed such devices before? Why not? Man up or get another job!

Well, let's see, times have changed a bit. The news report said they've seen average of 5 cases a week of bath salt users. With all the media attention on the effects, why someone would want to use that shit is beyond me. Just to get high? Give me a break. Arming the police with Tasers are a good idea - to protect themselves - and others - even you! Imagine that!

Better be careful there. One of 'em will shoot himself or another cop with one of those things. Or one of those state trooper wannabe's will use it on someone they shouldn't have and get the county sued. Let me ask you, genius--what is that gun on their hip for? It still holds true--if they ain't up to the job then they ought to resign, find some other work, and give the job to someone who can do it. Just tell them to man up. What are they getting paid for? Tasers don't kill and no one get physically hurt. First an officer should never have to lay their hands on anyone. Because it is illegal to assault a deputy. But I feel that if a taser is used then there will be no fight where Simone can get hurt or killed. I am 100% for this and feel that it is a good idea. And it's about time they got them. It is an effective way of subduing someone with minimal harm caused up officer, as salient, or innocent by standees as bullets will pass through a body.

I don't know what I think about the cops having these. I would feel more comfortable if I knew at which point they could use them. However check your facts about the no deaths, google it and you will see more than a few deaths have happened due to a person being tasered . I just hope there has to be very good cause for the cops to use them. Time will tell.

Troopers have had tasers for some time. However, they are already very well trained in their use. I see little to be gained in having them for local cops with limited abiliies and responsibliies. If they need the help of a better trained and equipped agency, the State Police are always there. The county has limited resources.

Unfortunately, too many times, the state troopers are not always there! In this big county, more often than not it seems the troopers are "North", or not responding. When you've got a non-compliant or hostile wacked out subject with people in danger and you're in Port Leyden, etc., you really can't wait for the state troopers to show up. There is no doubt in my mind that the deputies will be properly trained. The more tools they have to protect themselves and John Q. Public the better. And most of them that I know are not wannabes, they are where they are by choice. Did you want to step up "Zap Yoreself"?(sic)

Does any one here even bother to read the article? The tasors are for the JAIL. The Jail...2 tasors one for north side, one for south side. Road patrol drops off people arrested for processing. Typically one officer does the process of searching..paperwork etc. other officers are watching the monitors, supervising visitation, or taking the inmates out for their exercise in the yard. So If the person who has been arrested is unruly or out right crazy - either drunk, on bath salts or just being an asz...that officer now has a tasor if all other trained efforts fail. How would you like to subdue a physco 350 6ft criminal. I love how you people sit behind your computer and pretend you know how to do their job! Get a life!

Ever hear of handcuffs and a night stick? Don't be such a wimp and a sissy. If you signed up for the job and take the money for it, then do it.

If a person uses force an officer is to use just enough force to counter and subdo. This is a great tool for them to do their job. I prefer they pull a taser on someone then their hand gun, or a night stick. It's away to even protect the suspect.

They're not for the jail. One for South patrol, one for North patrol.

I think if someone is dumb enough to use these drugs they deserve it. The police are only protecting themselfs as well as the community. If they beat them with the stick then we would see a topic about that. Go down to water st and start using the taser

if they are goiing to use them things they ought to know what they feel like. its the same with pepper spray. they got 2 tasers. all the deputies should get a chance to shoot the sheriff and his cohort in the rear end so everbody can see the effect and see how they work. it would be very educational.

Part of the training is that u do get it used on you. Just like pepper spray. Y don't u go back to the barn where you belong. And to the guys and girls that don't think they need them. There are a few good old boys I want you to try and grab ahold of. You'll wish u had a taser as your at the hospital getting your head pulled out your butts. Just saying. Or u disarm a guy with a knife using your hands. Go ahead hero. Try it Well be paying our condolences to your family. So don't knock technology that could be used to save your life or someone you loves life.
