Independant agents can write flood insurance even for residents no located in a flood zone through the National Flood Insurance Program.

What people need to realize is that even if the aren't in an area that is considered a flood plain but live near a creek they are always in danger of a flood. As more land is converted into housing additions and parking lots, this problem will only get worse.

Living near any body of water is asking for trouble, and in Oklahoma even moreso considering the amount of clay in the soil. I cannot feel sorry for these flood victims as they tempted fate.
Also, did Chellie Mills actually graduate college? This article reads as if it were written by a third grader.

I have a hard time understanding people sometimes. You buy a house, knowing it is in an area that could flood. You decide not to spend the money to buy flood insurance. Then cry about not getting free help when you get flooded. I wonder if we will ever get back to when people are responsible for themselves and don't expect someone else to bail them out.

Easy concept here, purchase flood ins. I did and have had for 17 years. If FEMA or the City does end up stepping in I hope they will check the Citizenship of these people before handing out anymore of our tax dollars. If then they are illegal aliens they need to go back to Mexico. But the luck of us Americans that work and pay taxes we will probably get the shaft and hand over more of our paychecks to indigent people. For the people not familiar with this part of town, it is mainly populated with Hispanic people. And dont pull a race card here either.

According to FEMA'S Website, everybody lives in a flood zone. But read the fine print before you buy a Flood Ins. Policy.

Do not give it to Salvation Army or Goodwill. They will sell the items, not give it to the people who didnt buy the proper insurance.

That would require people have common sense, which is scarce these days.
