What kind of Grace does it take to begin to heal a deserted child? It appears (we) are just begging for God's wrath.

Some parents just don't know what to do with their kids and find better homes for them from the beginning. Others just pass on the abuse they received because they just don't know any better. I wish my parents knew to just get me a good home with parents that I could count on and bring me up "right". There are people of all walks of life, but I do know that forgivness is the key to moving on and living a much better and loving life. Otherwise the anger will just hold you and only you down.

not to veer way off topic (okay, that's exactly what I'm doing), the root of the whole problem appears to be with unfit people making babies. Now, I don't support such ungodly things as abortion or China's one-child law, I do support things such as gay marriage and teenage birth control. The fewer dip-shits making babies, the fewer emotionally-damaged children, and the fewer human beings growing and festering on Mother Earth like a cancer.

Thank you for making choices as an adult and not blaming your rotten upbringing and becoming a rotten adult. God bless you for that! I agree that some parents just don't know what to do. Instead of making it easy to dump off your child we should have a safe haven for parents to come when they are at their wit's end to get the help that they need without fear of persecution. Sometimes they need counseling, mental help, education, or drug treatment. The children would have an opportunity for parents who would better themselves. If the parents could/would not better themselves then a better home could be found for the child.

When you have children under your care for three hours a day and society, the system, mtv, and peer pressure has them eight hours it is a battle that is hard to win, but it can be won.

each state should have asafe haven for all children. maybe a state law would save a few more lives, for afer all even older children become endangered. why charge a parent for a crime of abandonment if they feel that they are unable to take care of a child. after all DHS comes into homes to remove children, what is the difference if a parent makes the same decision to take their child to a sfe haven place. a parent should know when to seek a place of safety for their childre. only the state does not want to have that responsibility. after all the story of a new born gets more publitity, not older kids. also why not also have a place where a parent can go for a day to seek help and get some relief. might save a kids life. and who is out there that is to tell that parent that they don't deserve to be a parent. what just because they are poor. WHAT you are absolutely right about a safe haven for parents when they are at thei wits end. maybe that too would save a childs life, such a place would be well worth the price. IS not a childs life worth a little sffort and expense. but it will never come to pass WHAT. thanks for the straight talk and the truth on this subject of a childs safety. i think you probably have a nice family. GOD BLESS.

I wouldn't call those things society, etc. Jim. Kids aren't taught basics and values when they're out of the parents hands and in school these days. Between the four I've had go/going through the system, I'm convinced they are a social experiment.

I just simply cannot imagine being so desperate and not knowing what to do to just abandon my kids. What does that teach the child?

Everyone who abandons the kids you created - Kids are put up for adoption and YOU are sterilized and banished with only the clothes on your back, to some deserted island far, far away for life. Live off the land or die.
Plenty of time to think about what a freeking idiot you are and what a leanient punishment you received!

The States only wants new born infants because they highly sought after by adoptive parents. What a shame.

Me too but then again I was one of the lucky ones. I am very proud to say I was adopted. I can't say I went through the system, my adopted family knew my biological family but none the less I am very proud of being an adopted child. Wouldn't change it for the world!

I just can't believe people would leave their children. I would never have considered leaving my boys. I would have done anything and everything to keep them and make sure they were fed and cared for. I just don't understand people doing this. Do they not even think about how they are making those kids feel? This is the ultimate in selfishness.

The perfect example of why this state needs this kind of law is the kid that let her baby get eaten by the puppy. Of course, she would've had to care about the baby more than herself and actually take him and drop him off at the hospital, but because nothing is more important than she is, there is now another dead baby that nobody cared enough about. It's a shame that there is a need for these kinds of laws. Right now in the high school my kids go to, there are 4 pregnant girls. Out of those 4, there MAY BE 1 that could take care of a baby. The other 3, they'll end up abused or neglected. But with the Safe Haven law, they have another option. Personally, I couldn't do it, I wouldn't let it happen to a grandchild, but in some cases, this law could be the difference in life or death.

I applaud your thinking!! It would make more sense to help the parent(s) FIRST and then perhaps we wouldn't even be talking about child "drop-offs".

What were they thinking when they passed this bill with no age limit. Great so people can drop of 13 year olds and 17 year olds. The law should apply to newborns less than a week old.
