hey people when you are in the care of the state or county they are suppose to prive you with medical care full time protection. period!! this probably due to negligence upon the couty jail being short handed. and I did not hear you??, about the harm done to the boy who was attacked. dallas county texas let an inmate in a cell for nearly 2 weels with no water or medical. he was in a coma for a long period and finall came out of the coma with permanent damge. when in jail protection and medical is supposed to provided. if you don't want a county jail to be sued don't be negligent. same as being hit by a drunk driver, negligence. aint it

Billy, I have to say that I do agree with you on what you say because I have heard of cases where people have to get their legs amputated, etc because of lack of care in jails and such. I wonder how severe this kids beating was? Does it really warrant 27 mil? Is this boy crippled for life like in other situations and will he have to have lifelong medical care? I don't think so. Sounds like in this case, he was a lil hoodlum that just got his ego bruised a little. THE KID may deserve something, but not 27 mil. Let's face it. Tanika is seeing dollar signs.

There is no telling what finally laned this rascal in juvenile detention. I think the state should charge the mom for being negligent to raise her son appropriately, and for the cost of room and board...let's say to the tune of 27 million!

well random girl a judge or a jury can and will probably cut this down to the approiate size of winnings, after a judge and jury makes many decisions in a case such as this. but, the circumstances and serverity of injuries will be the main factor that the jury and jdge to make their wisdom known on what the judgement will be. after all this on the bpog, there has been nobody come forward with the severity of injuries. whether they are severe enough for a judgement to even be rendered. what are the injuries to this person anyway, how severe, does anyone known???

that 27 mill is just the start to use as a starting bargaining chip. this case will probably never make it to court. if the county is guilty of negligence, they will try to settle outof court. agin it all dependson the severity of the injuries.

A civil rights suit? Give me a break! The kid was being detained for a criminal act.

Injured by a guard or another inmate? So they are going to sue the "system"?

A quick docket search of OSCN.net reveals mom has quite a working knowledge of the state legal system and the cycle continues with the kid.

It appears mom and her lawyer are just trying to make a quick buck with another frivilous lawsuit. Wonder what the lawyer's percentage is? Bet it's not pro-bono work!

Just remember, any award will be paid by you and me.. the taxpayers.

heck folks dont get all riled up yet. it hasn't even got to court yet. we don't even know the severity of the injuries yet. this will come out sooner or later. and he may just get nothing. a lawyer works cases such as this for a percentage and cost. uncle al. I also have no sypathy for the criminal element. but just aas you and i expect protection by law enforcement, a person locked is also suppose to recieve the same protection. and that old boy may hace started this fight his self. nothing to get excited about yet. someone read the suit at the court house and let us know athe info there???? might be interesting!!!!!

stop committing crimes... and bad things like getting jumped in jail wont happen to you. period. let me get this straight... it's okay for you to go out and put other people in harms way, hurt them, or rob them or endanger them reclklessly.. but when you get put in jail, if something slightly criminal happens to you.. you expect a monetary settlement and special treatment? i've an idea... stop screwing around and stay out of legal trouble.

this is a very trashy and despicable thing to even be discussing. this shouldn't have even made the news.

This kind of goes along with the old addage that if someone breaks in your house and you shoot them, you'd better be sure you kill them, or else they'll sue. It's a sad, sad day when a criminal who gets hurt in the course of, or as the result of, their criminal activity has a right to benefit financially from those were protecting themselves. This case is similar in that this kid got hurt while in custody, not by the police, but due to the fact that he was in policy custody for being a punk and engaging in punk activity.

A variation we also used is if someone attempts to harm you on your porch and you kill them in self defense, be sure you drag them inside before calling the police. That might have changed with the stand your ground law. HELLO KID WHO GOT OWNED BY THE KID WITH THE BOW AND ARROW! STOP BEING A BULLY

That is the question of the day. I have a feeling that he may have only received a few bumps and bruises. Or perhaps a fat lip. This whole case is rediculous. I wonder if the boy is still being a hoodlum? Did he learn anything from his experience or are we spreading the message that it is even ok to act a fool in jail because even then, we don't have to be held accountable and we can sue.

Personally, I don't think there is an appropriate amount for this. I mean, let's face it, if the kid wasn't a punk, he would have been home studying for his history exam. He didn't get beat up because of something the cops did or didn't do; he got beat up because he was a lawless punk. In other words, he got what was coming to him.
