Kelsey woke up so late because Raye Dawn had dosed her with cold medicine the night before. She showed a similar, drug-related lethargy when the Briggs and Sigman families had their final visit with her in August. Kelsey's second scheduled visit was on May 9th with her mother, Raye Dawn Smith.

The DHS aide remarked,
"Kelsey was very excited to see her mom" and
"Kelsey seems to be very comfortable with Mom." The two "read books and watched TV"
and when the visit was over
"Kelsey gave Mom two big hugs."
Kelsey's mother was seen
"crying when she left today."

Raye Dawn Smith will soon be facing murder charges, due to the new evidence.

Raye Dawn Smith was born on November 19, 1979 in Meeker, Oklahoma to Ray and Gayla (Fowler) Smith. Raye has four older siblings. Her brothers Danny, Tommy (Ray's sons from a previous marriage) and Curtis. She also has an older sister, Janet (Ray's daughter from his previous marriage). Raye also has a younger sister named Rachelle. The Smith family are a very close-knit family. Ray had his own business so all of his children had the sports cars and designer clothes. However, none of the Smith children ever acted as though they were spoiled.

Raye was always a very popular girl, treating everyone the way she wanted to be treated. She was in dance and was one of the best dancers in her class. She loved both hanging out with her friends and family. She always had a very upbeat personality and made friends easily.

When Raye was a student at Meeker High School, she was the captain of her cheerleading squad all four years. Her sophomore year of high school, she started dating Lance Robinson. Lance was the football star of the high school and Raye was the popular captain of the cheerleading squad.....

...Raye had an uneventful pregnancy and was excited to be a mom. She couldn't wait to meet her baby and thanked God every day that this pregnancy didn't end the same as the last one did. Finally, on December 28, 2002, at 10pm, Raye gave birth to 7lbs., 19 inch baby girl she named Kelsey Shelton Smith. Kelsey had a head full of black hair and olive skin at birth and was absolutely beautiful. Raye and her whole family were thrilled to have this new addition to the Smith family....
...Lance and Ashley were married in June 2003 and Kelsey was at the wedding. Ashley told people that Kelsey was she and Lance's daughter and even told Kathie that she and Lance wouldn't have kids, that they would just keep Kelsey and raise her.

Raye absolutely adored Kelsey. When she would work, Gayla would take her video camera and record Kelsey every single day, as she'd done with her own children. Everyone in the Smith family all loved having Kelsey around and doted on her constantly. Raye and Kelsey did everything together. Raye, who as a little girl had been in several pageants, put Kelsey in her first beauty pageant when she was just a year old. Kelsey won Best Personality. It was a great start to 2004.

Raye absolutely adored Kelsey.

I know Rachelle and Curtis loved Kelsey, because you can see it in the photos. Ray loved Kelsey. Gayla thought Kelsey was annoying. One of the reasons Raye Dawn told Lance he was the father, was because she wanted someone to fund her partying and to dump Kelsey on.

I feel sadness for the young man named Jason, who was the first one to be told he was Kelsey's father. It was obvious that he loved that baby, because he and his mother attended the funeral. Raye Dawn is one of the most emotionally careless people I have ever seen. She had no moral compunctions about leading that poor young man on, as long as he paid for it. When it was proved he wasn't the father, she turned to Lance. I can't blame him for insisting on a DNA test, considering her promiscuous lifestyle. But, thank God she was a member of the Briggs. They were the only safe haven she ever had.

I gave you the only recollections of any members of the Smith family who loved Kelsey. Ray, Rachelle, and Curtis.

Here's a memory from Kathie Briggs. "Kelsey was a very independent child. If you asked her if she needed help, she'd say,'I do it.' If you asked her again, you would get a stronger,'I do it.'"

Another memory from Shirica, the sister of Lance Briggs. "I remember the first time I saw Lance hold her in his arms. You could tell instantly how much they adored each other."

A memory from Kathie Briggs. "She really loved to be read to. Her Papa was always willing to read any and every book she could drag out."

A memory from Shirica, aka "Aunt Rees." "It was the cutest thing ever to see her with that big smile on her face and her saying 'I bite,' like she had really done something fabulous." And yes Sue, very small children bite.

A special memory from Mommy Ashley. "Kelsey loved the lake, riding in the boat, riding on the tubes, swimming, and playing in her own pool at home."

This memory comes from one of Kelsey's Briggs cousins,"I remember you bit my dog Mandy. I remember you would say 'cubbers' instead of covers. I miss hearing you say 'Oh, man!' I love you!!"

Shirica's memory,"I remember she was crazy about her daddy."

Another memory from Kathie,"Her smile was infectious, and she could wrap anyone in her family around her little finger."

Here's a memory from Mommy Ashley, "Ethan remembers who you are, every time he sees a picture of you he says 'Kelsey', and gives you a big hug and kiss."
