Question is...What is the state doing with the money? I don't see anything changed.

The vast majority (80 - 90%) goes to the school system, and the other part to the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The schools use it to fund projects, improve classrooms, etc. I'm not aware of all, but there is generally limitations on how it can be used, like not for teacher's salaries or bonuses, etc.

It SHOULD be public record of EXACTLY how it is used. So should Turnpike revenues.

I think the money should go to the counties or cities that the casinoes are located in. Not the rest of the state.

From what I understand, most of it goes to schools who are on lands considered former tribal territory.
I know the Cherokees donate money (outside of what they are required to give the state) and they do it in the 5 or 6 counties.
This is a link to the public released document for the Cherokee's that outlines exactly where all the gaming profits go, if you are interested. http://www.cherokee.org/docs/PublicNotices/09...

If this kinda money is going to the schools as they say. then WHY are the schools in need? I don't think they give it to them as they told us before the vote- not the state

Revenue sharing goes to both local and state governments.

You're referring to the lottery, which is seperate from tribal gaming. This particular article is referring to casinos, etc. operated on tribal land.

There are 14 counties which the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) covers. Some of the counties are not completely within the jurisdiction of the CNO.

For instance, only the part of Tulsa County NORTH of Admiral Boulevard is in the CNO jurisdiction.

I looked at the .pdf brochure and not enough of it goes directly to needy Cherokees who actually live inside the Cherokee Nation.

I wasn't saying that it did, it only covered the highlights. I do know that they sponsor a program in the summer/fall (as do some other tribes) that give low income families a stipend for school clothes.

I am not well versed in everything they do, but I do know that they gave part of the proceeds from the sale of tags back to the schools, with no stipulations on what it could be used for, as long as it was used for the school.

Gaming is not the only source they use for funding their programs. I was just trying to help show how some of it played out, since most people are unaware because they media doesn't report it.

Well if it is being used for schools than whomever oversees it needs to go back to school because OK still ranks one of the absolute highest in all negative categories when it comes to edumacation!:) Who really knows where the money goes and how much goes where I always believe most of it goes into crooked pockets!

This article insinuates that the tribes voluntarily gave or "contributed" to the state.

Wrong.

By law they are required to; it's a form of TAX.

So ... thanks for following the LAW ?!?
Whats up with that

It's part of the Tribal Gaming Pact that was made between the state and the Tribes. I think there should have been alot more money than what they gave. How many Casino's have you ever passed by that there parking lot wasn't full. Think of all the poor suckers that go and for the most part loose their money.

Even before it had Casinos, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma gave monies to the Tulsa Public Schools to be used in all of the schools and not the ones north of Admiral Blvd which is in the CNO boundary area.

Why would anyone accuse me ridiculous stuff of by their posting judgments of "Spam," being "Clueless" and "Nuts" for what I posted?

What's the matter? Don't they like to read what is documented by reliable facts?

I went to the Cherokee Nation's official website to get the number of Oklahoma Counties in its jurisdiction.

And, as I stated, I looked at the Pages of the Brochure put out by the Cherokee Nation to see where various percentages of the gaming profits go.

They were obeying the LAW.

Those "monies" were & are not "gifts", they're "taxes" on tribal income. Hundreds of tribal citizens attend those schools; hence responsibility - legal & moral my "friend".

There is NO law that requires the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma to give money to school systems within its jurisdiction.

The CNO was GIVING money to the Tulsa Public Schools BEFORE the CNO started issuing its own vehicle tags AND BEFORE it had casinos.

The majority of the schools in the TPS school system ARE in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation area.

I am NOT your friend; and besides, you are a hateful person, especially towards me.
