Hi, I live in the Mid-Atlantic....have always loved the south, but never got a chance to spend too much time there. I did spend a lot of time in Atlanta back in the late 80's and loved it. But, that's a bit too big a city for me. Due to some life changes, I am picking up stakes and going to visit (and hopefully move to) Savannah. I'm keeping my job...can work remotely, but I guess I am worried about whether or not I will fit in. I've heard you are welcome as a northerner as long as they think you are a tourist, but as soon as they know you live there, its a different story. I don't consider myself an obnoxious northerner...like I said, I love the south. Also wondering where is a good neighborhood to settle...i will likely rent for 6 months before deciding to buy. I think I woul dlike to be in town, walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc., but I hear parking is a bear, and I think the victorian district is out...a bit expensive and too many tourists!!!! LOL....any feedback is welcome!

I am from New York, absolutely LOVE Savannah, and considering a move myself now that kids are all grown and all. Had some of the same questions as Kim, but seriously hope this site doesn't represent the mentality of the majority... doesn't look too pretty. Have NEVER seen this in my travels, but as Kim said, that was as a tourist. Hmmmm.... Good luck Kim, maybe a different site is the better way to go here. I know my own home town "Topix" site is pretty low-life, I should have known better. Thought it was just north country hicks, apparently not.

Are people from the north accepted once they get to Savannah, or are the kids picked on in school? Must one speak with a southern twang to fit in. What is life like in Sanvannah. Some from the north appear to think it is the land of opportunity; is it? Is it easy to get a job there?
