The cycling authorities cannot be that stupid!

Administering anabolic steroids, so late in the Tour would be next to worthless. For the most part, anabolic steroids enhance performance by increasing muscle mass; it takes time for this to work. Why would anyone use anabolic steroids, administrated at the last minute, to win a race? The answer is, they would not. There are quite a few performance-enhancing drugs that would actually be effective, if administered at the later stages of the Tour. The problem is that these drugs would be either very short acting or injected only. Anabolic steroids, although ineffective when administered late in the race, can be administered orally; moreover, it would be the only drug that could be administered in food or drink. Therefore, if I wanted to get some disqualified from a race, I would add anabolic steroid to their food or water. Who would do such a thing? Ask anyone who put a bet on the outcome of the Tour. Did anyone check Landis' food and drink for Anabolic steroids? I will bet you that this was not done. That is why the cycling authorities are stupid.

I take it this will necessitate the downing of beer and Jack Daniels as reported he did the night before his miraculous recovery and victory on stage 17.

Well, Floyd is appealing the decision. If a man is innocent and being wrongly convicted he should appeal. If a man is guilty and trying to save some face by maintaining denial after being caught then he should own up and be discraced. It's called integrity. Pete Rose forgot all about it. I guess that's why they're not letting him into the Hall until after he's dead.

The thing that makes your sabotage theory a non-starter is that it's so neeedlessly convoluted--why go to all the trouble of sabotaging a racer who'd bonked out at stage 16 & therefore was already behind in the competition? why not just give Landis something to disable him from the next day's race, like laxative, or sleeping powder or strychnine? why give him something that might ENHANCE his performance rather than DEGRADE it? how could you reasonably predict that Landis would come back to win the race & the overall Tour? how could you reasonably predict that the other racers wouldn't be similarly-enhanced and, without the handicap of an arthritic hip joint, outperform Landis? I'll patiently await your answers to these questions, George.

Here, here! Testosterone would not help at all in an endurance sport like cycling. Additionally, it is so easy to detect in a urine test, no one would take it if it did help. If Floyd wanted to cheat he, like any world class athlete, would have tried to sneak a designer steroid that would be more difficult to detect. It could have been added to his food or even his urine after the fact. The entire world hates Americans right now. It seems Floyd may be George Bush (or Lance Armstrong) by proxy in the eyes of the international community.

No, alcohol has carbohydrates. Now you sound puritanical. Are you sure you aren't an AMercian?

Is there anyone "qualified" out there that knows whether the teams have the labs do "sample splits" or "duplicates"? i.e.(using Floyd/Phonak for example)A sample is collected from Floyd. Half goes to the TdF accredited lab, the other half goes to Phonaks accredited lab of choice. For a "duplicate" Floyd gives 2 samples, one is labeled "Floyd 1", the second smaple has some identifier such as "A123". Both the sample and duplicate are run by the same accredited lab however they do not know the source of the duplicate. "Duplicates" are very standard practice for lab quality control and "splits" are common when you don't trust a lab or want a second opinion. This costs a bit more but is one hell of a lot less than Floyd or Phonak are/will be spending to fight the alegations.

As for steroids not having an affect late in a race.....that is forgetting the aggression that steroids bring shortly after taking. The muscle building affect is certainly slow but the psychological affect is rapid and can be very influential in a race.

The evidence is now simply overwhelming.

Like I am going to believe anything that comes out of the land of the Mormons who are probably the only ones vehimently supporting the shrub, except for a few chewy tabacy gunslingin' go' ol' boyzzzzz.

Chrissy an American contributer on Erosport said at the end of stage 17. "Nobody in the peleton could have matched Landis today". We now know why.

Here are a few questions I have.

1. If they are testing him for doping, why are they doing it via urine samples?
2. He has a thirod problem, could that be the outside source of his high testosterone?
3. Why would an anti-doping agency be doing the testing?

I really want to believe Floyd but it's hard. Like most other people who watched his stage win I feel very sad and angry, not so much at Floyd yet as I still want to hold on to the hope that he's innocent (slim chance I know)I feel sad and angry that our enjoyment of hte race has been taken away and once again, instead of talking about heroes, we are talking about cheats.
