I wouldn't take the students comments too seriously. After all, I can't expect a private citizen to understand all the complex nuances of proper police weapons handling techniques that a professional law enforcement agent at the advanced level of chief would practice.

Yes you can't even get into the Shoot Yourself in the Ankle class until you are at least a Lieutenant and even then you need a minimum of two flesh wounds and one accidental shooting before you will be considered.

Maybe the students weren't that knowledgeble, but anyone who knows anything about handguns knows that this Chief clown should not have had ammunition in the gun during class.

What exactly is that training, keep your finger off the triger while holstering your gun?

That's just 2 kinds of funny and all kinds of wrong!

The police can't deny that the gun was loaded inside a class room. So there is no saving face!

I hope this is a joke. My husband works 10-12 hour days, is called in at crazy hours, gets yelled at by strangers just because of his uniform, and has to drive to and from work with a gun in his lap because he might get carjacked. Say what you want about some cops, but keep your broad generalizations out of it.

My husband is a genius, got a college degree, and could have been ANYTHING. But he chose to serve the community as his career. People go into law enforcement for many different reasons, but not all of them stay there. With the current legal climate, it is anything but an easy paycheck.

Doesn't the chief being careless go without saying? This was the first conclusion I drew when I read the original story........

His fellow officers will be laughing about this for years.

In a previous job, I videotaped (at the Detective's request) the arrest of a lawyer. When the Detective found out that the lawyer was in his house refusing to answer the door, he went to kick the door in. Captured on video was the officer rearing back and launching a solid kick at the door, only to be launched backwards off the lawyer's porch. The video also captured both his partner and I laughing our a$$es off and the detective's red face.

Good times.

10-12 hour days = many Americans today
called in at crazy hours = many Americans today
yelled at due to uniform = burger flippers
gun in lap = many Americans today
genius + college degree = substandard pay and zero respect? Not.
Your husband sounds like the exception. Instead of us not generalizing, why don't you not "exceptionalize" instead?

I hope your comment was supposed to be SATIRE, because as far as I can see, the Lt. was a schumck.....
