Oelwein gets it's name from a family of German immigrants that owned most of the land where the downtown is siuated.Their House was located about where the old Chamber of Commerce building is across the street from from Clete and Connie's Tavern. The Oelweins are buried in the cemetary located over by the old Railroad shops. The Big long building not the 2 stall little shops. I hope this helps.

Karen I was raised in Hazleton and spent most of my life here. The town was named because of all of the hazlenut bushes that grew in the area. Thus the spelling Hazleton not as you spell with e before the l. I hope this answer helps you. Vickie |
