Bottom line, she murdered two children. No one who murders a child should ever be released from prison.

The three comments before me reveal only ignorance and I pity people with such hate. They don't seem to understand that post-partum psychosis is not a choice. It is not simply depression or unhappiness. It is a mental illness that is short lasting that results from hormones in pregnancy affecting the mind to the point that the person is NOT RATIONAL, IS NOT IN CONTROL OF THEIR ACTIONS, AND HEARS SEES AND BELIEVES THINGS THAT ARE NOT THERE OR DON'T MAKE SENSE. For unknown reasons about 1/1000 women have post-partum psychosis, but these women usually have supportive families that step in and protect the children, protect the women, help the woman, and/or obtain mental health care for the woman until the pregnancy hormones disappear and the woman's mental state returns to normal. My family member suffered a milder form of post-partum psychosis. Fortunately she had family to help her with the baby each time she gave birth and for months afterwards. I shutter to think what may have happened if she was in the same shoes as Debra was in 24 years ago - abusive husband who she left, unsupportive family who would NOT assure her that they would take care of the kids if she was gone. Mental health care that was out of reach despite her pleading for help. She had decided to kill herself and only after EVERYONE insisted they would NOT take care of the kids if she was gone, did she decide to take them with her. She took an overdose when she gave the kids the overdose. When she woke up finding she was not dead, she tried to kill herself multiple ways including putting her head in the stove and breathing the gas until she passed out, along with cutting herself. She WAS NOT in her right mind. She was not a bloodthirsty killer.

We should never hold someone accountable for actions they had NO CONTROL OVER. We don't do this with children or the mentally retarded or the insane.

Post-partum psychosis is a real disease and every other civilized country recognizes this. It is a VERY SAD statement that so many people in America believe that there are is no such thing as mental illness or psychosis and that even the most insane person should be tortured and killed when they commit such awful crimes as killing their kids - even unknowingly. Obviously, America has a long way to go in order to educate its population and to begin to deal with the complications of mental illness appropriately. We are cave men and barbarians on this topic.

In England women who kill their babies are examined by a psychiatrist and if they find post-partum psychosis they are not charged and are simply put in a mental hospital until they recover and then they are required to obtain help with future pregnancies.

Debra Gindorf is a victim of diseaase. She was given an abusive and excessive sentence. I wish her well and apologize for my countrymen who were so ignorant and malicious to keep her in prison so long. I wish her well.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Cancer

Mercury turning retro is offering you the chance to make sweeping and long-lasting changes to your life, and to clear the ground for some fertile growth in 2010. Lawyers and legal matters, debates, contract negotiations, partnership or other alliances, and joint ventures of any kind need attention. As a Cancerian you don't like endings, but you must now bring an end to any situation or relationship that is holding you back or has passed its sell-by date. Look forward, not back, if you want a glittering future.
