This is heartbreaking and I'm sure the parents are very upset, but everyone knows that guns are supposed to be up and away out of reach for this very reason and while I would hope this was an accident, I do have a 10 year old and him carrying two gallons of milk are quite funny as he is clumsy which many children are under 2, if the law would do what it says it's going to do and punish those who don't follow directions/laws maybe people would starty being more responsible an taking laws seriously, no wonder children are the way they are, "If the adults get off, the so can we" mentality is becoming the way of life for youths, it's disgusting, and I get laughed at for my children being good and on the bookworm(y) side!

Irresponsible people leave guns around for children to accidentially shoot themselves...for a couple of buck, his father could have purchased a trigger lock or a lock box to keep a loaded gun in.
Not to be heartless but this father is responsible for the death of his son.....prosecution of people who leave children in danger is the only way to convince people that the law is serious when it comes to leaving guns around the home where children are living. Tragically sad story, a man who will live the rest of his life with the guilt that he failed to protect his son in his own home.

This is why I don't like guns, we need to talk about what we're going to do about ours and Ava, especially now that she is going to start walking...

This is very tragic and my heart goes out to this family. But I have to say that only a fool would underestimate the intelligence and strength of a small child. Seen it in action too many times to ever say oh a child would never be able to do this!

ROCKWELL wrote: ten bucks says the family will be charged... no way the child could have pulled that trigger. they need to all be locked up & any other kids removed agree. if the gun was functioning properly, or even if it wasn't, i'm betting a family member shot the child accidentally and is just saying the child pulled the trigger which we are all doubting. no guns in the house with a child (especially unregistered guns and why would be have one, remember that saying that if guns were outlawed only outlaws would have guns??) and keep the kids safe.

The father needs to be jailed and castrated. The mother should be sterilized.

A normal sized 22 month old has some pretty small hands. How did he manage to not only pull the trigger, but do so while having it pointed at himself? That is a very awkward position to hold a gun in if you think about it. The handle on that gun is not very large, but pretty large for such a small child to get a good hold on. But whatever happened and however it happened, this gun should NOT have been accessible. I am not familiar with the street on which this happened, but is it such a horrible neighborhood that maybe one has to sleep with a gun by the bed? None of their story makes sense.

As I said yesterday, we'll see this become infanticide. Someone already questioned me on that and said I was wrong. I don't think so.

There is definately something fishy here. have two kids and as toddlers they were not really ever awake at close to one in the am, walking all around the house. If they woke they were scared, usually because it was dark and they were alone. Also what others have said about tiney baby hands.......so true, I think it is a very awkward position to hold a gun.Not to mention we have no idea if they even lived at the residence, etc. Fishy fishy. Poor child.
Last but not least, once again the slantinel has confused me. The first paragraph gives the childs name while later in the article thaey say they can't release the name due to there being an ongoging investigation. Seriously people...PROOFREAD.

I feel that the fact that the gun was not in a secure place is the adult who owned the gun fault. That baby will not live his life that he deserved to live because of the fault of a irresponsible person. It's so many kids who lost there lives because of someone elses stupidity and the illegal usage of firearms. Personally I have lost many love ones from guns and I will truly pray for the family of that poor defenseless child and most of all I will pray for that precious angel will make to heaven in the arms of God. Thank You
