Person who knows

I know Jay Roberts to be a good person. He is a good husband and father. He is loved by his family and friends. He is kind and will help you in time of need. I don't like to hear people talk bad about him. So if you can't say anything good don't speak his name.

help a kid out-bullying

I pleaded to Jay Roberts, whom had a high school senior at the time to help me in my fight aganist bullying. I wasn't as diligent as I should have been, and since the issue was so close to home, it probably affected me more than others, but my child was assaulted on the playground at Irwin Elementary. If he is picked on and feeling threatened something is wrong, and this was going on from the begining of school. I was not informed, nor ws I informed when my child was jumped on and punched in the eye by two other chidlren. We are talking kindergarteners here! We I tried to plead with the principal Donna Bake for a schedule to reduce the number of children on the playground, she told me that that was not an option. They would continue to keep 125 kids on the playground like they had been. I felt like they had no concern for my child's well being. I am not trash here. I was a graduate of Irwin County as well as my sibling and cousins. My children's father was a hurrican native, but of course I wond where our child would attend school, IRWIN county. He would get that down home, small town feeling, just a good ol' boy. But, forget that, if you stand up aganist an injustice. My son was attached and the situation was witnessed. The principal told me that the only solution she seen was for me to be in charge of buying the equipment and making the scheduling.(The professional leading the school told me this in front of the teacher! appauling.) You have to go into these systems not as a calm professional, but as an unruly lioness protecting her cubs. For this woman to have children my kids age, how can she say there are no "malicious" kids at the age of a kindergartener's age. WHAT? Okay, Thank goodness I was employeed by another system or I would have to pay tution; which on my meger salary would take food from our mouths. But, we must suffer. PARENTS= GET OUT THERE ON YOUR LUNCH BREAKS....MONITOR THE PLAYGROUNDS AND LUNCHROOMS. These have been proven to be the number one areas for bullying to break out. Which is why mostly everyone, except Ocilla, in the surrounding area provides adequate scheduling as to not have too many children in one area at a time. For goodness sake Ms. Barker, we are here for the kids no just some, but all. I wasn't asking that the child be even punished for the incident, although in a just world that would have happened. If another chld puts their hand on someone, they are out of line, and need to be corrected! I felt my son's incident was meant to be swept under the rug, and I was not taken seriously at all by the system. Even at the top level. I wish my tax dollars could go to a city that values my worth, and the worth of my children, I just love this place. Well, I love to live here, and always wanted to raise my kids here til' they started school. Hope we can support that bill to send our children to other schools. Voucher bill supported by another GA offical! SAVVANAH

Why not start with the teacher during pe time? That would be the logical first step. Then go to mrs. Barker, then the super.. help a kid out-bullying wrote: I pleaded to Jay Roberts, whom had a high school senior at the time to help me in my fight aganist bullying. Donna Barker needs to be replaced. Period! I have had my own issues with her and that school. Trying to talk to her about a concern is like talking to a wall. Useless.

Donna Barker is a excellent admin. some parents have problems because she doesn't immediately cower before them and make changes they demand. I long for the day that parents realize teachers and admins really do want to help all children. But. A parent flying in their faces over every little thing is ridiculous. And gets to the point that the teachers groan when they see the parent complaining about Little Johnny not having enough time to finish his candy bar at break. Did you talk to the child's teacher? Start there and if not happy, then go up the chain of command.

Brenda thanks for you input. We did have conversations with the teacher. We got no where and foolishly believed Ms. Barker could help. I'm sure there are those parents who rant over silly garbage but an excellent administrator should be able to handle situations without compromising the best interest of a child. No one expects her to cower. Parents expect to be heard and concerns adressed. These things are not happening. End of story.
