Thoughts and prayers to the boy and his family.

I do agree that there should have been parental supervision, and helmets if they weren't being worn. The story doesn't say, but with critical head injuries it doesn't sound like it. My son was never allowed on his 4 wheeler without a helmet.

DANGIT! I sure hate to hear this. 3 wheelers were bad enough, and caused many injuries. 4 wheelers are fun, but sadly many kids and adults find out the hard way that they can be dangerous.

I'm not preaching. When I drive to work every day I take my life in my hands. Life is full of risks.

I hope the kid will recover.

Doesn't appear they were wearing helmets and probably unsupervised. When will parents learn? Children that age are unable to judge danger and almost invariably not as capable as they think - thats why its the parents' job to say no. I hope the boy fully recovers and his parents get a second chance.

Ultimately it is illegal to allow your 11 yr old to ride
ANY ATV that is over the 90cc range. This is CHILD ENDANGERMENT.

Should he have sugar coated the facts? Do you let your 11 year old kid illegally ride ATVS? Do you let your 13 year kid drive your car?

I hate arguing on these forums, matter of fact, I hate to see any arguing whatsoever... Still no excuse for me to argue with you. I should just allow you to feel that its wrong for someone to state what they are thinking...

These kind of accidents are preventable.First an 11yr. old, doesn't belong on a trx500.These quads weigh at least 450-500lbs,and when they flip over an adult could be pinned under one very easily.2nd,the parents should always make the children wear a helmet.3rd,in the state of Oklahoma,it's against the law to ride double except on a quad made for two people.I'm not saying riding double is bad thing,it's just harder to control these with 2 people on them. These kind of accidents really bother me.I am a avid ATV rider and have always taught my children to wear safety equipment that is readily available, and not to ride a quad that they can barely reach all the controls if at all.I see this all the time at public riding areas and wonder what the parents were thinking.also.riding these big utility ATV's across a pasture at a high rate of speed is kind of dangerous anyway, with all the hidden obstacles.I hope these kids and parents come out of this a little smarter.

It is not illegal. Its against industry regulation. My 8 year old races an Apex 100. He wears all the protective gear possible. He knows that he can only ride his 4 wheeler when me or his dad is around. He knows he isn't aloud to ride on the road or with a passenger.

I completely agree! These parents are paying for the decision they made....they don't need some strangers that have no clue judging them. It's not my place or anyone elses to judge these parents. I hope this boy pulls through

I am so sorry that your family is going through this. I will be praying that Jacob pulls through - don't pay attention to the people that don't know anything about your family or situation, they don't have anything better to do than judge others!

has no one even considered that it is still illegal to ride on county roads with or without a helmut. Then parents need to be held on criminal charges any time a child gets hurt on one of these death traps. I feel sorry for the kid but its high time people got their heads out and woke up

When a family member comes onto one of these forums and states their anger with what is being said, there is an instant change in the direction of and the amount of negativity within the conversations.
So what does that tell us? Whether they have the courage or take the time to respond, clearly they are always reading these posts.
Freedom of speech should never be imposed on or limiited, however, a higher level of class could be implemented to ensure we all cause no further harm to those families.
I agree with the comments about helmets and parental supervision but we don't know the whole story. We get a 2-3 paragraph condensed version from the media. We are sheltered from the images of his parents sleeping at his bedside in the ICU pryaing for a miracle, hating themselves for allowing this to happen, etc...
I do not have children, however, I am sure 9 out of 10 times the angry parents voicing their concerns have left their chid unattended at some point. Luckily, your child wasn't harmed, this one was... My opinion, for what's it worth, is more of a request to take a softer approach when posting comment in these instances.
