The food and assistance is definately needed but will it reach the people of Haiti? The Sun Sentinel ran a story recently of food aid rotting in the port while people eat dirt. The workers in the port were not keeping up with inspections and shipments were backed up and waiting in the US. Is the problem the inspections that need to be done or the port workers that may have been involved with the drug shipments that led to the required inspections?

Very good intentions but a waste of time and energy. Half the food will rot and the distribution people in Haiti will take whatever is left. Please, we (our own U.S. citizens) need the assistance. Why can't people see we have people starving and in need of clothing right here in America!!!!

Haitian Flag Day needs to be celebrated BY haitians IN Haiti. Nothing you collect here will EVER get to the people you intend fro it get to. It will be looted at the arrival destination before it EVER sees the light of day. Haiti is doomed. let it die.

Its really pathetic that we have this attitude isnt it? Dont think I am bashing the posters, I'm not..I am agreeing ....this country (Haiti) had the opportunity to do so much and literally ran it into the sea. Here we are in the 21st century and this Island is literally worse off than ever, blame it on what you want..but American sympathies are exhausted and fed up with wasted aid that has already being given each year. There is a very valid reason why these people get turned back at sea, we just cant afford to absorb the ignorance and or the culture...I agree with "Help your own kind" at this juncture. You wanna donate? Donate to your own communities in THIS Country. White, Black, Purple give to Who you want, but keep it at home...

These people (Haitians) seem to thrive in hardship. How can a small country like Haiti be in such dire situation in this day and age. There have a democratic constitution, free elections, and yet the can't better their situation.
I believe in helping people but I also believe they should be willing to help themselves. Hand me downs and charity doesn't work.

Haitians are like little fleas crawling around in the armpit of the caribbean. "Once considered the pearl of the caribbean..." HAAAA! That's right!... Until the stupid, lazy, black savages took it over and turned it into a vile wasteland, where even trees fear for their lives.

Haiti is in perpetual chaos because of Haitians, Lauderhill is a craphole because of Haitians, Boynton Beach is a gangland because of Haitians. PERIOD.

Yes, on May 18th, we have so much to celebrate. Lets all cheer for the dysfuntional african jerkoffs who took the jewel of the indies and ruined it for every future generation of thugs and dikweeds. Now, it's South Florida's plague du jour. Yea! CELEBRATE!

When I was in Costco I observed Haitians buying food for Haiti! The family spoke and said that most Americans do not buy bags of rice and other staples to feed their own people in their communities! Well I replied that "whatever I do with the food is my choice and business" however, It did make lots of sense. We saw Haitians and other nationalities buying bags of rice, flour, beans, and again these people are sending it to Haiti! We didn't see Americans buying bags of staple food to feed their own people? I don't see Americans in the stores buying food for helpless, needy people in their own communities! We as Americans talk alot, but what are we doing for our own you say? Do you go out in your own community and seek out shelters and other types of programs that feed people in your own community? Haitians do work and do the jobs that most Americans do not? Like patient care, changing old people's diapers, feeding incapacitated people, so they do have the right to use their own hard working money to pay and send it back to their homeland! Yes, I agree that if Haitians can educate themselves and make a living than perhaps go back to Haiti and attempt to redevelop the land, raise crops and cattle! So, instead of judging other people than hopefully your making a real difference in your own community and backyard! And seeking out those people right in your own hometown providing food and cash and maybe offering a helping hand in needed! Proud American! Sam

How about we donate a little wakeup call and teach the RUDE, LAZY, CHEATING,ETC people that when they are given a chanch, they should take advantage of it and not act like we still owe them something! They are taking over the nurseing aid job but only to draw a salary! They sleep all night when they are on duty so they can work two 12 hr shifts, and refuse to do anything to assist the nurses or the patients when they are awake! The hospitals and especially the nurseing homes should put the hammer down and get rid of this garbage! These people actually have two or three full time jobs, sleeping half the time on each! This is easy to prove so trust me, it is very common!

Okay however these people are working perhaps not as you see it? but where are the American people who should be working in the nursing homes? All the tech school ard full of haitians and cubans i don't see any americans running to work in patient care! you working in the environment and you see it so tell me and your fellow americans why they not working in these nursing homes!?! and really my statement was about what are you doing for your community? are you feeding the needy, homeless, sick? People talk big when it comes to aid assistance over seas or start here in your own backyard? are you going to the publix buying rice and feeding poor people right here in south florida! Im not saying go and feed the world or Haiti but what are you doing to make a differecne in other unfourtunate people's lives?

For everyone one you see buying goods to send as aid, you see many more buying to export and make a big profit on reselling to the the poor in their own country. They go to thrift stores, flea markets and raid donations boxes so they can ship it out and get top dollar. There are enough wealthy haitians and groups that could invest in Haiti but they don't and use the excuse that it's too unstable. Their own profits and benefits come first and foremost. Those who are most able to help their own country would rather hang on to what they have and live the easy life in the US.

Thank goodness they can't just all walk over here across a land bridge. Bad enough that they sneak in across the water. Who cares that a people too stupid and useless to even feed themselves, have a flag? Another Lib example that someone else's problems were caused by us. Get a grip! Thanks.

..and birth control! What a nasty group of people they are. They should be holding fundraisers to pay back all of the people they have robbed, raped and places they have trashed!
