Many parrots from parrot jungle, and private homes, pet shops got loose when we got hit by the hurricaines back to back.

These birds i am sure would rather be in a home with toys, seed, love then out and about but they should not have to suffer becasue people or hurricanes bought them out into the real world where they have to hunt and forge for survival

at one time we went to the wildlife bird center off of griffin road her in ft.lauderdale an adopted a quaker parrot she was the coolest animal i have ever owned we got it for our daughter but in the long run she passed away. so ifigure if these monk parrots are a problem here in so. florida why do we not turn our attention to all of the teenagers who drive while being under the influence instead of trying to figure a way to get rid of one of mother natures creatures. this is not the thing we should as a civilized society we should concern ourselves about. we have famalies who have no place to live nor fooed to feed themselves nor gas to go out and look for a job etc. lets get real here they are only birds taking care of themsilves.much more important problems to focus on in this day and age everyone please grow up.

they can also lure humans into dangerous feats of foolishness." Thats some great reporting there, Lou. What are they doing? Hanging out in the entrance of their nest with a come hither look? How about greedy, lazy, red-necked humans who think nothing of ripping a baby from its mother? People like that should be culled from the human race.

Well said, well said! Leave the Quaker parrots alone!

I see, now its the birds fault for "luring" that idiot to get an electric shock. What kind of idiotic biased stupid newspaper reporting is this? Does the public know that FPL hires contractors to slaughter these birds in gas chambers in Hialeah and in the process they drop baby birds on the ground to die? Yes, its the birds plotting and planning that got that scumbag electrocuted. Too bad he didn't fry to well done.

My thoughtless neignbor has a quaker and puts the bird outside because it makes too much noise in their house. It makes so much noise I can't sit outside on my deck and read or open the windows when the weather is nice. I asked them to do something but they refused. I went to code compliance and asked them to enforce the noise statues in reference to squaking and nuisance animals and they told me to go to the police. After three calls to the police dept. I almost got arrested for anoying the police.I was so humilliated by the police and annoyed by the bird My wife and I had to move out of our mortgage free home to a town house rental in Plantation with an HOA.
The bird has more rights than I do. What happen to "quality of life" or "quiet enjoyment of home"
The birds rules.
First of all... you need a good pellet gun, plenty of pellets and if that doesn't work, a 12 gauge shotgun will work. you can use kurt cobains... he doesn't need it anymore..just wipe off the brain matter off of the barrel. and then you can have your home back!

I'm glad we don't consider "eradicating" nonnative people. I thought America was a melting pot...oh yes, that only goes for people. This bird has not proven to be of harm to native species or the environment, so why the prejudice? And by the way...what was the last native Carolina parrot doing in a Cincinatti zoo?
I know, lmao you think it would have been in the Carolinas.

I find it funny when humans create a hierarchy of which animals are cool, which ones you can kill and eat, or which ones are pests. It is often arbitrary, and differs among cultures around the world.

I wish I could do something about the dozens of ducks that poop on my walkways, but I dogmatically know hurting animals is terrible (unless it is pest control, a hamburger, chicken nugget, or the circus, etc.) Rodents and deer have low self esteem anyways.

The green parrots have won folks, they have achieved you may not hurt us status, I say good for them. I say if the parrots pay taxes, lets get them their stimulus package to buy some gas and McCain 08 t-shirts.

Animals have every right to control our behavior. They would never kill us. Wait, I take that back, they are animals, they would kill us if they could.

I would never promote animal cruelty, but they should never ruin your happiness. www.captureandisolateallanimalspeopleonsunsen...

Dear editor,

How on earth this reporter can turn the idiocy of a human around and blame the quakers for being responsible for his injuries is BEYOND belief. Quakers can "lure... humans into dangerous feats of foolishness"? Ya, just like money in the bank lures thieves. Give me a break!

Birder Brian Hope hit the nail on the head and put the blame where it rightly belongs when he said "They are here, and there's nothing we can do about them, but I wish people wouldn't let these things loose." Let's put the blame where it belongs, on an unregulated "potentially invasive species" industry, otherwise known as the pet trade, and an irresponsible public.

If we do not do something now to license every potentially invasive species you can count on a parrot taking the nest hole of the last Ivory billed woodpecker!

I have a "Quaker" as a pet myself. I got him as a 3 day old baby from a friend. Hand fed him and kept him warm till he was old enough to take care of himself. That was over 5 years ago and I still have him and he is happy as can be. He has a vocabulary of about 15 words. He is funny and amusing and pretty darn smart. He is very loud though. I vote- Keep the birds-They are awesome.
