Everyone knows you're not supposed to go in the water after Labor Day. Especially if you live down there. He should've known better. What a shame.

This guy was an experienced surfer and waterman. It probably was not a drwoning, but a different medical problem.

I don't care how strong a swimmer this person may have been. Rip currents are stronger than most can imagine. I grew up in OC as a strong swimmer and nearly died swimming on the north-end with lesser rips. Body surfing with a strong undertoe is just as bad.

I knew this man. I'd say he wasn't an idiot. Maybe "told you so", however presumptuous, should be saved for a different time or story.

Hey, Bonnie. Sorry a few of us "first time posters" don't spend our days and nights trying to be somebody and gain acceptance and friends on this comment section. I have some advice for you and the rest of the morons on here who place blame on Mr Mazzitelli for going into the water the other day.

GET A CLUE!!

Were you down in OC on Wednesday?? Didn't think so. You were in an office somewhere trying to kill time. There must have been the starts of hurricane waters down here, right?

This was a 36 year old man who loved to surf and his life was taken too early.

Do you people wear water wings when you go swimming in the ocean.

Out of respect for Maz.... Bite Me

Lost my boogie board yesterday, Sept 7 when a large wave hit me and tore off the safety strap. I swam sideways, did no good. I'm a good swimmer but couldn't make any progress. Surferboarders were a distance away when I finally was going to yell for help when a man appeared of a boogie board and I got on with him. We kicked and kicked but couldn't gain on the shore. Finally the Beach Patrol came out on a jet ski and brought us in. He pulled us so fast throught the water I almost lost my bathing suit. What a day. I thank that life guard for saving us.

How about showing a little respect for a guy who lived for the ocean. You clueless Shoobies have no idea how the ocean, currents, tides, waves, rips, etc work. Listening to some jackass news reporter about the "dangerous rips" does not make any of you nearly qualified to even speak of something like this. Mark spent many years in Hawaii and surfed for over 20 years and was as capable in the water as any of the life guards that OC employs. Accidents happen!
