My sisters and I were at the beach that day on 37th street and we noticed somethings was wrong, so we walked down to about 31st street. My sisters and I quickily realized what had happened. It was very hard to watch, it was so surreal. My sisters and I wanted to help so badly. If only they had more lifegaurds, people on the beach with binoculars, helicopters, or boats searching for this man. I saw the man's family greiving and it broke my heart. I want them to know I have been praying for thier family and I am so sorry for their loss.

Amy wrote: It was surreal, we were called over by our lifeguard for a short lesson in not diving into the shallow water an how to survive a rip tide. Suddenly he gets a call on his radio, he dashed to help rescue the three boys. Thus started an unbelievable chain of events. The lifeguards searching, diving up and down in the water, then lined up searching north and south in a line for hours. The race helicopter, the coast guard helicopter, the md state police helicopter, the coast guard boat searching for hours. The minutes turned to hours and I couldn't shake this sad feeling that somewhere a few yards away a family enjoying the beach on Father's Day had just witnessed an unbearable loss. You never know when will be the last time you will see someone. Every second is precious. Dear God surround this family with your loving arms. Amy my family felt this same feeling too! Such a sad day after that. That poor father and on Father's day of all days?

My husband reached his hand out to shake that fathers hand that night and to tell him his family was in our thoughts and our prayers. All you felt was saddness inside and here 3 days later I am still following this story. I really hope they find their sons body so they can have proper closure.

I am still following this story as well... any news on if they found him yet? I can't even explain my sorrow for his family and friends I didn't even know him and yet I am upset that they couldn't do more... such as stop the boat race all they did was make more currents and make it harder to find him... I am so sorry for the pain this has left everyone... Katie

Hey folks I was there and spoke with rescue personal on scene about the search. I work for the fire department as well in Baltimore. Some points to this sad story are this, even good swimmers could get lost in a rip. Once your down you have very lil chance and this happen so quick. The rip WAS NOT affected by the boat race and stopping the race would have been for no reason as you would really need to how the current works at the ocean. A person at his location could have been at 1st street within 5 mins and as high as Indian in the same time . Very few people surface in that same area they went down. The surface is dangerous and un forgiving sometimes. I also speak as a victem who was washed away by a current 20 years ago and the only reason I am typing today is when I went under I was two guard stands away when I hit a womens legs and she thought I was a shark and kicked me and I grabbed her legs.
