Full story: The Orlando Sentinel

D uring the next 50 years, a new city of residential villages and business districts could be carved out of remote timberland in central Volusia and northern Brevard counties where Florida black bears and panthers still roam.

Sure, let's just add 23,000 people to our higways, power grid, and water supply which, by the way, is predicted to cost us triple in the next few years due to growth.

This development will cost the existing residents of this area. Us. Don't doubt it for a second.

Yeah, Bob, this is the beginning of the end. It didn't take a crystal ball to know it would hit even here, sooner or later. Unfortunately I have made my living serving the purposes of the dark lords of development for 30 years now, even if I was only a simple carpenter. It has been an odd life being a tree-hugger and a wood butcher. How do you think life will be in Oak Hill when the long awaited Bethune bridge goes in? Pretty good for the speculators. Not so good for the manatees, oysters, egrets, or guys like us.

I simply don't understand the necessity of more development. Take a drive around town and the county and it's a forest of "For Sale" signs. Who will benefit? Of course, the developers who care not one whit about bears or ospreys or manatees which conincidentally are a big draw for tourist who spend money and then go home.

I left Volusia co. four years ago for an undisclosed location in the panhandle. You wouldn't believe how much better life is away from that POS place. Life is too short, get out now !

I sold my house and property a few years ago, whe prices were peaking and moved away from volusia co. smartest move I ever made. since then I've noticed taxes have about tripled on my property there. I feel badly for the ppl. who bought the overpriced place. now I'm enjoying a rural lifestyle with no traffic jams, reasonable taxes, and about 1/10 th. of the crime.I agree-life IS too short.

I'm disapointed there isn't more particapation on this forum. It would be a tragic thing to allow anyone from destroying the beauutiful property w. of Oakhill . People need to get involved and don't let this goes on unchallenged !I regret I live about 300 miles of your area. but I know the area very well.I hunted and fished there near on 40 years ago. When they paved the Maytown rd. I thought something like this would happen.its a sad thing.

Where do I begin? The world is dangerously overpopulated. Religion demands you continually increase your hungry greedy brood (to dominate other religions of course). They say 'God will take care of you'. I don't see many of these church leaders standing in front of speeding trucks. It is the same thing, only the truck is a more responsible method as only two people are effected.

Global water shortages, food shortages, devastating droughts, gas shortages, global epidemics (like H1N1), the list is endless but ALL DUE TO OVERPOPULATION. You say because you are American it doesn't effect you? It does in every aspect of your miserable little life.

Yet religion demands you keep popping out new recruits. It is a vagina- NOT a clown car! Without trees turning carbon dioxide into oxygen, what are we going to breathe? Wake up people. Anyone having more than two children should not only be horribly ashamed of themselves, it should be mandatory they be sterilized by the state!! Imagine the money we would save not having to pay so much in welfare.

Thor: Part of me understands what you are saying and the other part of me wants you to move to China.

The main problem with this new development is that it has more to do with generating more tax base than bettering the lives of the existing citizens. And, even worse, this will cost us all more in the long run.

Even if the country had zero population growth, our leaders would still try to steal population from other jurisdictions just to increase the tax base. But from where will come the jobs for these new citizens? Construction? Bullcrap. That is the pyramid scheme of pyramid schemes.

I'm tired of our leaders listening to rich developers and using their catch phrases -- smart growth, etc.-- to sell us a bucket of sh!t disguised as progress when it's only true purpose is to increase the tax base and line the developers' pockets.

Tax breaks to manufacturers and large employers. That is the way to better the lives of our citizens, not adding more to the population.

Who is our govenment working for? You? Me? Nope. They work for the millionaires. They will approve thousands of housing units at Airport Rd. and Pioneer Trail, yet turn down a 60,000 square foot commercial center because the area is too rural. They can KMA.

We need jobs. We need jobs. We need jobs.

Hey Thor:

I really wasn't trying to criticize you. It's just that the only religion being worshipped here is the almighty dollar. We might elect them, we may even choose the lesser of the evils, but when it comes down to it: Money talks and the rest of us are left farther and farther behind.

where are the "greenies'? The "treehuggers"? this is one of the best causes for extremists that has come along in a long time. there had to be a number of endangered animals and plant life on the afore mentioned property. SAVE THE EARTH.

P.S.- did you know, a giant woodpecker almost stopped Disney from building epcot center?-because of the times 30 yrs ago, Disney was able to buy their way. I'll bet there are many of those woodpeckers in Farmington.

As virtually all of my past posts indicate- I am hyper critical of the government in Volusia County. I just got off on a rant regarding religion and the breeding of stupidity. Yes, one could say it is the very same topic! Destruction of this property to build more crappy homes just invites, no begs, over breeding.

One day uncle joe decided to move the shithouse. With out telling aunt martha, he moved it close to the kitchen window. That night at dinner aunt martha turned to him and said " joe, I smell shit "
I'm sure theres a moral to this story but I don't know what it is.

Mercury's retro phase in Capricorn will raise questions in your mind about a friend or loved one during the next two weeks.
