Thief in central Maine targets old telephone poles

Old telephone poles are being swiped right out of the ground in central Maine. According to FairPoint Communications, about 35 poles have been cut and stolen.

so is the thief helping or hurting? My guess is that he is making it much harder to remove the section in the ground so therefore should be stopped unless he does the right kind of removal job.
