So these 25 jobs that are being moved to PA and OH, are these jobs that have been created or jobs that have been saved?

Some inconsistency in this story:

The Oakes ND plant makes high-reach telehandlers (i.e., heavy-duty material-handling forklifts)- not "aerial work platform lifts for commercial and military use." (This is work that is part of the military product which existed at SkyTrak before JLG acquired SkyTrak).

JLG has lost MORE THAN 53% of its workforce.
Their reductions total nearly 2,400 so far, at all facilities worldwide.

Layoffs have been due to the construction downturn and credit crunch but they have also been caused by JLG building far too much inventory far too long into the economic down cycle.

On a happier note the company's president is directing the development of a new JLG golf club driver. Maybe they should manufacture sporting goods instead LOL?

As a past Manager with the Oakes facilty, i have to say that is sad news for the town and the employees, however it is a bigger loss for JLG in the long run. Moves that are only done on a short term cost savings could allow competition to continue to gain market share as they have done over the past 5 years.

The midwest workforce is strong, and the team in Oakes will find other oppurtunities, hopefully this does not backfire on JLG in the long Run.

Gosh, I really feel bad for that little town. 2,000 residents. I bet that town really depended on that plant.

All my best to you and those affected there.
The JLG of just a few years ago is vastly different from today's JLG. Ask any employee in PA.

Best of luck to your co-workers - even before you were part of JLG you built an awesome product.
Your work has left a real legacy in the equipment industry.

Funny but JLG didn't seem to mind feeling so bad that they're closing it.

Of course they will be closing another plant soon too.

I think JLG should stay in Oakes. A better work force will not be found in these other states. I understand about the recession, but I think this is the wrong decision in the long term.

Where else can you get a bunch of farmers to work for five bucks a day? Warm place with an indoor shitter.

Daily Horoscope for November 30

Sagittarius

As much as the robust Archer would like to indulge, today you must mind your health. If you go out to celebrate the holidays, go easy on the rich foods and spirits. Too much alcohol and you might find yourself saying the absolute wrong thing to the right person, thus blowing what could be a perfectly lovely evening. Strive for moderation.
