Alex Soteras - Dishonesty Within the Chamber of Commerce

When is there going to be an investigation on this guy. I have won (3) judgements in small claims court and he still hangs up on me. I moved out close to a year ago. He has at least (3) other civil and fraud cases against him and here he is in the Acorn every week with some other prominent politician. He stood up and lied under oath in court. Anybody out there listening.

Think about this. Alex Soteras has 20 rental properties. He does not return any security deposits without a law suit. These security deposits range from $2000 to $4500. This is supposed to be a community leader.

The friend that I mentioned on the initial posting won a judgment for the maximum amount of $7,500, including two times damages for his willful refusal to return her security deposit. Soteras never even bothered to appeal, now she's going to track him down until she gets paid.

I've told her she should start publishing her story in all the valley publications he promotes himself and his mortgage business in until she gets a cashiers check in hand.

Any other thoughts?

A few days back I posted my experience dealing with Alex, but it did not get posted. Any idea why.....

It's unbelievable that the Chamber would allow this crook to represent them as their 1st Vice President.
He also owns approximately 20 real estate properties. Easy to get and file a lien against them if you have a legal judgment.

I am currently living in a rental owned my Mr. Soteras, I love where I live but must admit I have had some negative experiences with him. Mr. Soteras has made sexual comments directed at me and has been less then proactive about repairing problems with the rental. I'm also mentally preparing myself to never see my security deposit again despite the fact that the rental is in better shape now then when we moved in. I would suggest that any one goes to look at a rental and sees Mr. Soteras get back in your car and drive away.

My husband and I rented a house from Alex for four years. It has been a year (as of Jun25) since we moved out due to my husband’s military orders and have been trying to get our $5,000 deposit with no success. All written communications to him has gone unanswered and when I finally talked to him on the phone, he said he was having money problems and could not return our deposit. I think we all need to write letters to the Acorn and make everyone aware of the way he treats his tenants. They, and the Chamber of Commerce where he serves, needs to know that Mr. Alex Soteras is not who they think he is. No one else should have to go through the ordeal that all of us are dealing with. How ironic that he is a Mortgage broker that uses others people money to do business. I no longer live in Ventura County, but I am close enough to participate in any event, town hall, radio interview or anything else that must be done to stop him from cheating others out of their deposit.

I have emails from Alex Soteras soliciting sexual services from men. I would gladly forward these emails to anyone who is interested. I also have texts confirming the idenity of Alex Soteras and his intentions of wanting to solicit sexual favors from young men.

Robert - If Alex likes males or females, that is a freedom of lifestyle choice for him to make, not for you or this forum to judge. Unless the "young men" are minors then you have a legitimate concern, other than that what you are doing in this forum is suggesting blackmailing a person. Mind you, the alleged accusations you are bringing are of defamation nature. If you are man enough, deal with the issue yourself directly with Alex - don't hide behind other peoples problems to have them carry your dirt.

Yes. Stop giving advise and mind your own business! Your friend sounds old enough to fend for herself. Remember that there are always two sides to a story. You've only heard one side, and maybe the other side is none of your business but one between landlord and tenant (and judge). How do you know if your "friend" always paid her rent and was current on that? Amazing to hear about alleged sexual advances now that she claims her deposit was not refunded. And do you even know your friend good enough to know if maybe she is withholding information about an intimate arrangement between her and Alex? If that was an issue - there were ways for her to handle the matter. Friends don't let friends air their dirty laundry on forums.

This guy had bette own up to his legal financial responsibilities or he's going to bring down some good people around him are innocent bystanders.

Dear Alex's Friend,
I can appreciate your effort to defend Alex and understand why you feel the need to do so in such an aggressive manner but the fact is he does not treat his friends the way he treats his tenants. I am not insinuating that he needs to be nice to the people who rent from him but he shows little to no courtesy or respect when dealing with them. Alex is either oblivious to the fact or does not care that by ignoring his tenants he is affecting their lives and their ability to function on a day to day basis. If Alex was a good person who respected others there would not be posts from all of these people, not to mention the numerous negative responses to news articles about him. The fact is Alex cares about himself and those people who can make him look good, he could not care less about the "little people" who in fact pay for his gated community lifestyle.

I just decided to Google Alex's name to see what he has been up to. This man is everything that has been posted on this Forum and more. The fact that he continues to intentionally steal from his tenants is both illegal and immoral, and I can't believe that he is still an officer of the Agoura Chamber of Commerce. Someone should start a public campaign to PICKET AND BLACKLIST every participating member of the Agoura Chamber of Commerce until he is booted out. Is this the kind of treatment these business owners condone for their customers?

After receiving our 3rd and final judgement against Alex Soteras, I tried to get him to pay us the money. He kept making excuses and delaying the payment or just hanging up on me. So, we filed a writ of execution with the court. Once the writ was issued we took it to the County Sheriff's office who executed it to Mr. Soteras bank. The bank then removed the amount of the writ and sent it to the Sheriff who in turn mailed it to us. This took a couple more months but in the end we got our money. In all it took us a year, after we moved out, to receive our deposit. I would love to be a part of any event to expose this crook. And to a "friend of Alex", you're the one who doesn't know what he's talking about, and should reframe from giving advise!

He was served again yesterday to appear before the court and produce a statment of assets. If we could get his bank name and location, we could file the same writ, but we had to guess and it didn't work.
It's unbelievable that this guy sits on these public boards and community organizations as a representative of honest hard-working people, while running his personally affairs in a manner to defraud everyone he does business with.
In our case, he left a voice mail stating that we could chase him around for the next two years collecting the money.
Totally classless, but we'll spend two years, longer if necessary, until we bring him to justice.

Actually since this is written it is libel, and its only libel when it is not true. What I have written is varifiable fact so therefore not defamatory or libelous. Also there is no blackmail involved. I am not seeking anything from this man. Only to expose his disgusting private habits that go far beyond just trying to rent men.

I have tried to deal with it directly with this man. I am expressing my right to react to a man who was extremely aggressive with me.

How am I hididng behind anyones problems to carry my dirt? Nothing you have said makes any sense. I can only assume common sense and human decency escapes you like it does Alex.

Call Bank of America, Calabasas, ask for the bank manager, she will refer you to the right people. They are getting used to this. Get this thief!!!!
