Sad. The stress of raising a teenager is hard enough on young parents, but aged grandparents can be overwhelmed. A domestic dispute would be physically and emotionally unbalanced by the age difference where teens thrive on disruption and elders reach a breaking point. Add to that the fact one side of the age difference has little to lose in consequences time wise and it's a powder keg. Not saying the teen was rebellious or justifying the shooting, but the article says there was a disagreement. The teen was shot in the yard rather than the house, which would suggest whatever happened in the home had spilled over into a "Get Out" or an "I don't have to stay" situation. Tragic.

The headlines for this is a bit misleading because it states that "grandmother shot grandson dead on lawn" and yet the article says the the child died in the hospital and doesn't even mention where the child was shot. It's also interesting to note that the grandmother was also hospitalized but they don't mention for what reason, but state that she can't be questioned until she is able to be released from the hospital. You have to wonder what took place that day, was there an altercation that forced this grandmother to defend herself in a manner that she might not have otherwise taken? Was she hospitalized due to physical injuries resulting from that altercation? Or is her hospitalization due simply to shock from the realization of what she has done? So many unanswered question. But the bottom line is that a tragedy took place. A life is lost and an elderly woman is about to be placed under arrest, not to mention her husband who was not home at the time sits alone wondering what the heck happened while he was gone.

The parents should have known better than to leave an elderly couple in charge of a teenager. Such a tragedy for the entire family.

I was going to say about the same. Now a days you find more parents dumping their kids on elderly grandparent. The article said the teen was just staying there to finish his education yet the 15 year old daughter didn't. Grandparents shouldn't have to raise their grandkids. Very sad story.

The story also said that the law had been called in March because of a dispute between the boy and the grandparents. This in and of itself makes you question the parents. If the child had become so disrespectful to the grandparents that the law had to be called, wasn't it time then to pull him out of their home and resume their parenting responsibilities? I can't imagine that where ever they moved he could not have finished his education, unless he was suspended from school in that particular district, thus the reason he was at his grandparents to begin with.

We see a lot of this in my town. Many grandparents are stuck raising their kids children, very sad. I agree with your post.

You are correct, we see it a lot around here as well. Seems today's society it has become all to acceptable. Kids today don't realize that that the child they bore was God's way of letting them know that He had something better for them to do... it was called PARENTING!

In response to others as well, this isn't always the case. I was raised by my grandparents. They did it because they wanted to, not because my parents didn't want to or couldn't. I had a choice. I begged since I was little to live with them and once I hit middle school they finally let me. Some grandparents raising their grandchildren are a result of a stronger bond as in my case. I still think this situation is messed up though. Clearly if there was a problem months ago it should have been taken care of. And what possessed the grandmother to pull a gun on him anyway? It seems as if he was defenseless in this case, but who knows? Maybe he made threats and it was in self defense. She could lie about it, but only she will ever know. At least she admitted to doing it. Either way this is a sad story. Unfortunate that two lives are ultimately lost and a family with questions unanswered and heart's broken.
