I don't see the problem developing the land. It is right along the freeway and in a commercial/retail area & the article says only about 7% of the land will be developed on. Oh no, we better stifle development and progress for the benefit of the micro-organisms living in the dirt and then we can hug some trees and sing coom-bi-ya. Oh yeah, don't forget to burn your bra's ladies.

Why oh why does every plan for balancing city budget involve handing the keys to the city over to developers? I heard the city council is considering having Mt Burdell leveled so they can build some more condos and shops...oh yippee!!!

Are you serious, Novato? Well received by whom? Does this town need ANOTHER hotel when we can't even fill the ones we have? Ridiculous!

The socialist's will fight it - but the developer will lawyer-up and sue, and teach a bit of an expensive lesson in private property rights.

It's about the law - not nimby whining.

Of course the owner/developer is from El Lay. Just like the slime that recently tried to build a hotel-shopping mall on the Albany/Berkeley wetlands. The El Layers spread their contagion to Northern California in an attempt to destroy our life style.

This is the second proposed new hotel for Novato.
The first one that I heard about has been proposed for the gigantic development at the Fireman's Fund site. That hotel was supposed to have 150 plus rooms.
I LOVE Novato, but who is going to travel to come here to fill those hotels rooms on a daily basis???
By the way, the developers for the Fireman's Fund site are also from the L.A./So. Cal area.
I agree with Klaus Kleiner "The El Layers spread their contagion to Northern California in an attempt to destroy our life style."

What lifestyle? We don't have a lifestyle up here in Novato. We're that town you pass through on your way to the wine country. BUILD BUILD BUILD. Then build some more.

Again, get more and more revenue for the city. You can trash the city in the process - after all, it is a joke to begin with. The elected officials in Novato are hell bent in making this place the laughingstock of Marin.
Just curious, when we are even able to sell existing homes in this town - perhaps another 2 or 3 years - how many people besides me will find the first sucker with a mortgage and sell your Novato house and move to "normal" Marin where this nonsense doesn't happen?
I'm fed up, grossed out, and after 10 years - want to leave and not live in a place that has turned into an embarrassment to say that you live here.

You are so correct and i will tell you one more thing that the city of Novato is hiding from you all. Redwood blvd from San Marin down will be one lane each way. I went to the so called steering meeting and this is all they talked about. They want to build houses on the east side of redwood taking out the median and all the trees. Watch what happenes read soon

No mention of the fact that Novato receives 80 to 90 percent of their water from another county. Novato is very much like L.A. because they are totally dependent on water from somewhere else. But L.A. is more powerful than Novato. Those developers from L.A. are used to getting their way with water, but the Sonoma County Water Agency has just recently announced the cancellation of their water project to start better utilization of Lake Sonoma that holds 400,000 acre feet of water. So that means that Novato and all the other growing cities in Sonoma county will not be getting any extra water to feed all this planned new development.
Maybe the developers will be forced to build the Dry Creek bypass pipeline themselves if they want to continue the L.A. sprawl and SMART growth. Or perhaps they can convince the sheeple to ration water even more to support new development, that is going to be a hard sell.

How about SALT build their low-income / elderly housing here instead of on the 27%+ slopes in Bahia? It will be much easier to get their variances and density bonus's close to a shopping center and hospital and on flatter land, then trying to shove it down the throat of Bahians.

Let's see, another large hotel so people have a place to stay in Novato when they visit the lovely "Old Town" or take the train to Cloverdale! They won't be able to drive around because with all this development the freeway will become a parking lot. Maybe Denise Athas can be their tour guide. Make sense!! People laugh when they see what the yuppies are trying to do to Novato. Novato is what it is, so accept it or leave!

I don't now what the complaints are. Novato doesn't have the class of Monterey Park, let alone Los Angeles.

and why do we need a hotel? There are plenty already in Marin. Build another one then all hotels suffer because they can't maintain the same occupancy. Jobs are then lost, and the existing hotels start to go into dis-repair.

The new economy cannot support more office buildings. Companies are doing more with less. They aren't doing more with more. Employee productivity levels are at all time highs today. That is the proof.

So that all means that a chili's, applebee's, or just junk restaurants will move into the spaces. This LA company knows this. It is these restaurant chains and resulting companies that will be attracted to this spot. That creates poor paying jobs, more people being trained to work the local welfare laws at the direction of the employer, destroys local businesses, etc, etc.

THIS IS A BAD, BAD, BAD IDEA.

Novato City Council and all the leaders think this is all a good idea. Go look at their track record. They will make another horrible mistake that will further turn novato into a place with no image and left with a reputation as a dump of a town and an eye sore.

* More than half that property is a dump. Literally, there is an old car, a motorcycle and car batteries dumped in the pond. This would improve it.
* A property owner has every right to try and develop his land.
* The city council has nothing to do with this yet. It's only in the design review stage, people. It has to graduate from that, then jump through hoops for the planning commission before it gets to the council. It might be a year before it gets to that point.
* Hotels aren't just for people visiting a town. They are also for conferences and corporate gatherings. Novato has lost out to San Rafael and Petaluma way too long for those events, which bring in major dollars.
* With so many people whining about lack of good restaurants in Novato, why not see if this proposal includes a few decent ones?
* The hiking trails and native oaks would be left alone in this proposal. Is that not a good thing
* The only bad thing about this is increased traffic. Rowland Way is already a mess. Citizens would need access from the area of 101/37 into this development. Having everybody funnel in from Rowland Way is assinine. That has to be address in the environmental impact review.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
