The burglar took a ladder from the back of the home and leaned it up against the side of the home- a glassed in porch.
The burglar then climbed up, cut the screen, smashed the glass, and climbed in, stepping on and crushing a late parent's exquisite artwork
When he saw that the mother and son were home, he ran out of the door. The police were called by mother and son. Two Norwalk policemen arrived. Outside was parked the "buyers" realtor from Iron Gate Realty in Stamford (no longer exists). With her were the buyers.
Behind them was the late parents' probate attorney. The home had been left to me and my son and, although we initially thought selling was best, we changed their mind long before any arrangements were made.
One of the realtors with William Pitt Sothebys in Darien told the mother and son not to worry, the prospective buyers did not have enough money to buy the home and would be returning to their home country in the near future (Russia.)
The sttorney did not approach the home or call us, his clients. Instead, he sprinted from door to door handing out his business card to the neighbors, stating it was only a "civil Matter."
When we returned to the area, the Norwalk Police records were checked. The Skobrevs were charged with burglary and with criminal trespass. Only criminal trespass was in "Hard Copy". The burglary charge was kept in the computer records. Asked why, several different answers were given.
The desk officer told me that he was "satisfied with things as they are." I was dumbfounded! He was comfortable with a burglary? Would you be?
Is it even legal?
