City's police chief fired

Jones was run out of this bass-ackwards town because of his color. The people in ND have a way of doing things and if you are not in the majority, you are in the minority. Fact is, Jones was a minority two-fold. He should try his best to win the discrimination suit and make the people of Larimore think twice before putting another elected official in the position the people of Larimore did. They deserve what they get. Heaven forbid anyone come in and try to make things better for the community. Step into the year 2000. It's not the 1800s anymore!!!

I wouldn't generalize by saying "the people in ND" think a certain thing. That's pretty closeminded, I would say.

I don't know much about the situation, since I'm not from Larimore, but it sounds like he tried to enforce laws that hadn't been enforced before (not necessarily a bad thing). In many small towns an officer gets in trouble when he/she is brave enough to crack down on things like Junior's high school drinking party (that is, if Junior is from the "right" family). That has nothing to do with color.

From my observations, most of the problem of racism in North Dakota goes toward Native Americans. Even then, I still wouldn't go so far as to say "people in ND" think any one thing. The majority of us are not the backwards hicks people would like to believe we are. It's just that those who are give the state a bad name.

I am amazed at the grasp of local issues someone located 1000 miles away can have, NOT!! The implication that the town of Larimore is a bass-ackwards town because someone of color lost his job there is quite narrow minded. And apparently there is no prejudice or discriminaton in Cinncinnati!!!
You need to get all the facts before you sit in judgement of anyone, or any town. While there is prejudice here, as in most locations I have traveled to in this world, for the most part the situation has much less to do with race than it had to do with a power struggle.

I am not from Larimore but i am from ND not all northdakotans are racist and the people who are, are just stupid. Larimore fired that cop obviously for all the wrong reasons ...becasue he was doing his job...he may have been a little harsh but he was just doing his job.

You Have no idea what is going on with this whole thing so dont even say you do, people like you make us people from north dakota look stupid, it was not because he was black is was because he thought he would change everything like he was god or something. thank you

Looks like the smoke has cleared since this is now July. Since the city of Larimore is my namesake,but never visited, I would like to think the folks who call it hope made a decision that is in their interest and not those of outsider's.

I believe it is quite interesting that nothing more has been reported about this situation. Former Chief Jones asked for a large settlement from the city for his Human Rights complaint. When the city showed Jones information they had fo things he had done and saved on the police department computer, he quietly went away with a settlement of a SMALL FRACTION of what he was asking. I believe Mayor Denault did the right thing originally to try make the situation as nice as possible for the dissmissal of Jones. Jones is the one who drug it out and claimed it was racism, but apparently that was not the issue. "North Dakota Nice" was evident in trying to be polite and quiet about the causes of the firing. I notice since the settlement was in July that nothing more has been reported on this site. Typical media trying to stir a simmering pot and then not finish the meal.

You guys aren't even from Larimore you dont know the shit that went on. he would give people tickets for bull shit stuff that anyone would get mad about.

Chief Jones was the Best of the best!!Sure Jeremy is a nice guy and all,but Jones was just doing his job.Larimore is racist,I know and I live here!!!Besides underaged drinking is illegal,and the mayors mother needed the ticket for parking wrong.Just because she was the mayors mom doesnt give her "special rights".I am saying this all in the most respectful manner I can,But seirously,Larimore is racist.

The people of Larimore were just ungrateful and too prideful to admit their faults. Mr. Jones was the best police officer our town has ever had and one of these days their going to realize that. Larimore IS NOT RACIST at all what so ever, I am living in larimore, nd , I am 100% Alaskan Native!!! I have nothing but people coming up to me loving me and my family and kids, always interested in us, and is loving and caring.

But you know what, there are racist people but there is at least alot in each state.

Larimore isn't racist, tho some racist thinkers live there. What Larimore is is resistant to change. After so many years of SELECTIVE law enforcement, several thought they were privileged and above the law. When Steve Was too aggressive in enforcement, they cried "Foul!"
Beyond that, there were other activities going on that detracted from "serve and protect."

Well, now that the smoke has cleared, Larimore itself is not racist, as they have a hispanic officer on the pay role. There may be people there who are. No matter where you go, there will always be racism. I believe Larimore is full of the surrounding towns alchol business and therefore all those who couldnt drive under the influence were getting Irrate that Jones would actually have the balls to pull them over. If you know anything about Larimore, the Alchol is the buisness. Its where all the surrounding farmers go.It brings in money for the town. Its why theres underage drinking. Its why the local buisness complain when their store looses cus uncle billy cant drink a few beers after work and drive home
