Old Timer wrote: So what many of you may not know is that this place has one hell of a history. The Pera family are the people that made it legendary. Jack just swam in their wake. The only problem is that they let the success get to their heads and blew their success right up their noses. Elvis Pera was in and out of rehab, his brother Roberto was a carbon copy.(Roberto seems to come to the surface every six months in a new endeavor) Elvis has also made several attempts to get back in the business in multiple towns all over Long Island. Poor George Pera, their father - passed away in true disgrace because Jack basically stole the restaurant from them as their backs were up against the wall. For a real story, go to Blackstone steakhouse in Melville, you'll find Elvis and his wife Gabriella waiting tables. George Pera did not die in disgrace. He had been sick for quite some time and it was very unfortunate that he died on the way home from work at Roberto's Restaurant. We were good friends of the Pera's and they are all good people. We also liked Jack and feel terrible about the restaurant burning. He is a good guy. We had been going to that restaurant when it was La Grotta back in the 80's. Nothing stays the same.

We feel terrible about the loss of their restaurant. We spent many, many hours at Il Giardino when Elvis owned it and we go as far back as the 80's when it was La Grotta. Nothing stays the same.

I too feel bad for the loss of a great restaurant. I hope you are correct that George did not die in disgrace for he was a wonderful man. But children who are addicted to drugs and committ adultry are the epitome of heart break to any father. Couple that with the steady trend of dodging bullets -(Restaurant opening and closings - Il Giardino, Vagabondo, Robertos, etc.) and it's hard to prove your point.

I think maybe if you have nothing nice to say you should just stay quiet.

We can both see things from different perspectives and that is each of our rights. Bottom line is it is the end of good times, good food and good memories. Let's hope that an IlGiardino-like experience awaits all of us in the future.

Funny how they didnt use the insurance money to rebuild. From what I know JAck is now cutting up veggies at another Italian place. Yes he is doing just fine now that he covered is debts with the proceeds.
