If they were looking for sympathy, striking on the day before Thanksgiving isn't going to do it. What i-d-i-o-t-s. Who is running that union?

Can anyone say "bite off your nose to spite your face"?

Both management and union members need to take a serious look at their pay. Isn't PACE and the CTA a little top heavy in administration?

And bus drivers need to learn how to give good customer service instead of acting like somebody owes them something. Also, they need to try to run their buses on schedule instead of standing around talking at all the food/coffee spots on their route.

Way to go Unions! Great decsion. Lets see here, no state money coming, cutbacks coming and potential job losses, so let's strike anyway and make things worse. BY tomorrow it will be too late as you have already ticked off many people for the Holidays. This is one time where people just dont forget how they were screwed by you.

Let's not forget about those of us who have to use PACE to get to work. I'm a reverse commuter, and now I am down to one bus (a haphazardly-running CTA bus) that will get me to work (and it is the one that bumps my commute from an hour to an hour and 45 minutes), because it is all the way on Cicero (and I live on lakeshore). ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

They had better resolve this by this afternoon so I can get home fromm work!

Fire them all. What a great chance to get one of the unions out of the transit system.

Thanks a lot for announcing the strike right before the workday begins so that people have plenty of time to make alternate arrangements! A-holes. I hope every last one of you cretins gets fired.

Just goes to show how poorly government reacts to the needs of the people. There was a good plan before the State Legislature and they rejected the proposal.

Why not fire every one of them that didn't show up today? It would be a great start at reducing staff that will need to happen at the first of the year.

Smart one union. Bargaining in 'good faith'- what a load of crap. I would encourage management to not give a single concession to this union / bus drivers. Fire them all and hire new bus drivers. Who do they think they are taking advantage of the holiday season to try and force management to the bargaining table.

The key phrase in the article is 'illegal action'. The striking workers and union leaders should bear the full penalty of the Federal law. They should be fired without benefits. A tragic mistake.

The article on CBS states what they're asking for, and it's ridiculous. They want a pension, not a 401K. No one gets pensions anymore except government officials (and those should go too). They want retroactive raises. With what funds? I got 2% last year, and my health insurance went up more than that. That's the reality guys, deal with it! They want to freely switch between HMO & PPO. Who can do that?

Then, they strike right before the holiday? You've got to be kidding. They need to get a clue....

Pay for your own retirement through a 401K like the rest of us. Taxpayers are sick of paying for your retirement. You drive a bus, get over yourself, it isn't like you are saving lives or have any special skills. Any idiot with a drivers license can drive a bus. If you make over $10 an hour you are overpaid.
Absolutely. If CTA/PACE drivers are paid more than the guys who drive those Aon/LaSalle/etc. shuttles in the Loop (and you can bet they are), there's something wrong.

Hey "Vipor". First of all, figure out how to spell, or at least type in word so you can use spell check. Seriously, who is "Moran"? Its "moron"! I'm guessing you're one of the bus drivers that is on strike. Hey, if you're unhappy with your career decision, change it! Go to school, get a degree and get a job that satisfies you. If you have a problem, meet me at the McDonalds on Cicero and we can talk. Sit by the window.

Again, the Tribune rehashes stuff about the funding crisis without saying anything about what the current difference over the contract is about.

What annoying is that isn't that they struck, it's the fact that they announce it at 5:30 in the morning. Why would people join your cause if you don't give them adequate time to prepare?

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Pisces

Getting your point across may be hurtful, but it will be appreciated. You need to make the changes necessary for your happiness. Expect disruptions at home, but try not to take things to heart. Shared finacial obligations are somewhat probelematic. Acceptance is the key. Do not be afraid to ask for help. You will be surprised at how willing others are to come to your side.
