Barrett led North Adams through difficult times

Full story: North Adams Transcript

to this city. What a loss. Irreplaceable by Alcombright. And in 2011 we get Dave Bond. Shame on us.

From your post GoodLuck, it sounds to me like you've already gotten into "the liquid luck" a bit early today.

With 5000 votes and 3000 of them going to Dick Alcombright it is a great win for the city of NA. These 3000 voters are excited about helping out our great city not just voting for someone and sitting back to see what he can do. In 2 years we will be in a totally different place because we care and are willing to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Some of us have been waiting for 15 years to help but were shut out and told to shut up or get out of our own town if we didn't agree with the MAYOR! As Dick A said in his speech he will be Mayor for all the people all the time not just the ones that shut up and agree with him. Why don't you join the new wave of community involvement and let by gones be by gones. This is going to be the most productive time in the History of North Adams. Don't miss it just because your man didn't win. He was a great mayor and did great things and now it is time to forge ahead..........Together!

Hey and Dave Bond only took a vacant swamp and turned it into a business and created jobs and revenues for the city. And by the way,(GoodLuck) what did you do? And seeing you are from Adams please stop using "us" it makes you sound unstable, unclear and uninformed. What a Shame!

The Berkshire Eagle headline editor claims: "Barrett led North Adams through difficult times."
It would be more accurate to say: "Barrett's leadership style contributed to North Adam's difficult times."

Possibly as was posted earlier--- MCLA the History & Political Science Dept is now offering a Public Policy major-- I know they hired a new person specifically for that and I think Bob Bence has a couple of courses that fit--I doubt that JBIII could get a full time position-- but adjunct is possible---on another note-- IF and I say IF what has been posted about his mortgage is true-- he's not going anywhere----IF he has a $228,000 mortgage he's got no chance of selling in this climate at that price--I have never been in his house- but I know it's a nice house---mine was assessed at about 198--I listed at 212- reduced to 199 and now it sits at 186---but what's left on my mortgage is about 9000---I really feel sorry for him- he was always a good friend to both me and my entire family ===and In my mind he did great things for this City---and most people would agree----obviously his supporters- but a lot of Dick supporters thanked him- but they wanted a change---so let's feel for the guy-- he is one hurting puppy---if Dick had lost he still had a job---JBIII doesn't---so let's givejim our sympathy and don't gloat---chbpod

Clark, the mortgage is 260K. Go to mass land records, northern berkshire. Read for yourself.

Overall, I agree. He's got to be a hurting puppy. He is fully vested though, and can retire to a pretty good salary... so we all know he won't go hungry.

He has definitely done a lot for this city, and he will never be forgotten.

No sympathy. He lost because in his arrogance he just figured everyone would vote for him.

Frankly, he ran a lousy campaign. I kept wondering when he was actually going to campaign. A stroll around the Downtown Celebration, a standout the Friday before, and the rest was TV and direct mail. He could have run the entire shebang from a golf course in Florida.

Dick was in people's houses, walking neighborhoods, standing out every week. He made connections before he even announced. He went everywhere there were voters, shook hands, stayed positive, and didn't grumble and wisecrack at the debates--a lot of good Barrett's "dogcatcher" story did him at the end of the day.

The iBerkshires story that said he'd never understands why the artists--who he "did so much for"--didn't vote for him...that said it all. He EXPECTED rather than EARNED support. Whoever told him that was a good strategy should simply retire from electoral politics immediately.

No sympathy.

It was $260k when posted. The question is, how much has he paid it down?

Look at the date of the last mortgage. Do you really think the principal has been reduced by much? Paayments on a mortgage of that size would be in the 1600-1800 range plus taxes and insurance.

Feel for the guy?
Live by the sword; die by the sword.
Excuse me, but has the man ever not lived off the public teat?
Don't worry too much about JBIII's future.
Mass. Liberal Democrats always take care of their own.
Note how Mass. Democrats took care of the utterly inept and crooked Evan Dobelle after he got fired for ineptitude and suspected fraud from his position as UHawaii president.
Dobelle is now over at Westfield State University.
(How's that for going from Paradise to Hell?)
So cry not for JBIII, because taxes in North Adams are paying for his cushy lifetime pension and dental and health care.

Who gives a rat's hemorrhoid what Barrett does?

It's his business, and none of ours.

You all talk as he were some Olympian god that came down, and behold! We were blessed. He's not, and we weren't.

There are 2 things I care about: 1) he lost, get over it; 2) transition out of office with dignity and let's see just how much he does love this city. "gracious" and Barrett - two words that mix like fire and water.

Alcombright apparently got elected by the support of mean crazy garbagemouths. Never has any city election been followed by such an outpouring of hate. Barrett looks better and better every second. Alcombright looks cheaper and meaner.

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Aquarius

Yesterday you had a good control over the workings of your mind, but sadly that isn't the case today. Instead, your thoughts are wandering in every direction except the one you need to concentrate on. The result will be a sense of being disconnected from what's going on around you and possibly even a dreamlike quality to the day. Don't make any decisions while you're like this.
