Berry Plastics hit with layoffs

Companies always pull that shit. Don't worry, there's no need to worry. All the more to worry, they just don't want you to f**k up there earnings/profit because your upset or worrying. My company is going through the same thing, don't worry they tell you and then you see people getting escorted ouot the door.

That is why I left Berry pastics last summer.

I was one of the ones that got laid off and they could have gone about it in a different way.It didnt matter how long you were there how good your attendance was or how good you were at your job.It was all about money.The poor invertors that allready have more money than most of us will ever see in 3 life times.The 5 years i was employed there it was the same every time we were sold.The employees were treated like mushrooms kept in the dark and fed s@@t.This state (Ma)has to do something about the way employers treat people,i called the labor board to ask a few questions and the anwser i got was if you not a union shop we cant do anything for you.The people that keep their jobs are back to 40 hours so the 36 hour ploy was to keep the people makeing money for them while the dept heads went around picking and chooseing the people they wanted to keep.If i would of gotten the training that i needed to do my job better i might still be there.I refuse to bring myself down to being a kiss azz or boot licker which is about 50% of the people left and 25% of the people they need to run the place and 25% of office personal.This is the buddy system at its best why would you need 3 HR to run the place when 1 could do the job,oh because the moron (Patsy)wouldnt have anyone to play grab azz with,i wonder if her husband knows.

And by the way 170+people got the ax.

Notice to anyone.If you borrow 5 million$ for a capital project from your parent company.Do not lie about the capibilities.This is a bad move. When you can't produce the lying numbers the parent company will decrease your buget.

Kris you must know how the Easthampton plant was run.Berry as a whole sent an e-mail last weekabout an 80 million dollar capital improvement project that will create 100 to 150 new jobs guess its not around here uh.

I spent 12 years there. They lowered their quality standards 5 years ago. Once they started losing customers they could never recoup. The 5 million inline upgrade was a bomb. Inline process in great but; they needed combis.Not downs. The data (scrap,c/o times)for the capitol project was a lie . The engineers knew it but they were afraid they would lose their jobs by telling patsy and john.By keeping those two guys happy they sealed the fate of the whole plant.I am sorry you lost your job but the writing has been on the wall there for a while.I give that plant 2 years. That is the only berry building that they don't own.

That is called Hitting the Nail on the Head.Two years your giving them more credit than they deserve.I E-Mailed the head of Berry when they first bought the plant and told them how it was being run into the ground but they didnt listen,so they're gonna get whats comming to them.I just cant wait for Patsy and his puppets to get it so they can see how it feels.

Investors bought our plant also, if you look them up all they do is build a company up to make a huge profit and turn around and sell it

My husband, father and two uncles work there and my husband is the only one left with a job. My uncle has been out on disability for some time and is going to Boston on Monday to have surgery for colon cancer. But he lost his insurance yesterday. We are hopeful the cobra will cover it. He was already pre approved. My heart goes out to all, but especially him.

It's interesting that the inteview on 22 News cited the economy. Another tube company is ordering new equipment because their leadtime is long and they need more capacity. Poor management is what sent this Berry Easthampton down the tubes (pun intended). They'll never admit it though. A recent article in Plastics News about the $80 million Berry expansion says the 2008 sales at Berry were $3.5 billion and they lost $101 million. This was better than 2007 when sales were $3 billion and they lost $116 million. Makes you wonder where they get money to expand.

I can tell you right now if Patsy,John and Scott stay at that plant it's only a matter of time before it closes.All they are worried about is sending large production numbers to the head office.Quality used to be first and fore most and with them guys running as fast as you can even at 36 hours anything that could run ran we were running orders due in Feb and March back in the middle of Dec.I feel sorry for the people that are still there that have to do the work of the 170 people gone plus their own work.Towards the end of my stay there we were required to give up one of our breaks to rework bad tubes that the dept heads would pass on to the next process mosty from Johns dept molding so now the tube cost twice as much as it did and they wonder why they're loseing customers and money.From the time Rafter left and Patsy took over its been a down hill slide i mean the guy came from the wharehouse to the front office that should give you some idea how the buddy system rules.He's nothing more than a tyrant if you dissagree with he you lose your job if your a yes man and tell him what he wants to hear your ok.I am not slandering him or the others because it the truth.Some one should be investageing they way they run the place a bunch of them went to Germany in Dec to look at a new Silk Screen Machine when in fact a couple guys from Maintence 1 Mec.1Ele 1person that was going to run it.But instead the people that went wouldnt know what button to push to start the thing.Nice free vacation at the Companys expence.

If things keep going like they are were all going to be out of jobs by May or June!!!!!

do not kick too much on local management. They are little mouses trapped by the cats. Look instead at the Evansville mafia and you will understand everithing.

It has happpened again, I worked for TPI in california and left about 4 years ago. My buddy was still working at the anahiem, Ca. location and they just closed the tubed portion of the location. Setco still exists.

I worked for Tubed Products in Oxnard for a long time. When they closed the plant they offered to re-locate people to Anaheim. It was just a matter of time before they shut the doors. They called it consolidating. That's ok, because for me the grass was greener on the other side. It is funny how Berry plastics acts like they care but ends up turning on you if you have concerns.You could see they were going down the tubes about 5 years ago.
