I went to UConn 25 years ago and it was the same thing. Anyone that is shocked or alarmed is just clueless. It's also not a big deal.

Watch this thread go bad real quick!! Between all the "arm chair" experts and all the goody goodies, who think they're experts. Bottom line is, nothing will change with college campus drinking. It's been going on and will continue to go on. I'm an "expert", I know!!!!!

I went to UConn 25 years ago as well...everyone I knew partied on weekends (at least the weekends that they didn't go home), and on Spring Weekend everyone drank way too much...and yet someone most of us became productive adults. Go figure.

Well, according to UCONN officials, who must be hinding their collective heads in the sand on a daily basis, this is news.

Not to me. I see the end result in Hartford, both at the courthouse and around the streets of Hartford when the same miscreants are doing their community service.

The difference 25 years ago was that the main partying was confined to the dorms and the internal quads on campus. In general the state police were not involved and the Residence Hall staff could target the trouble makers so there was more control -- most of the time.

When drinking got banned from organized UConn events it pushed the partying to less controlled neighborhood property and a greater number of students felt there was no consequences for their actions.

As someone who was an RA at UConn, I am surprised that there were no deaths due to drinking during these party weekends. Of course now, what is even more scary is the presence of heroin, meth and other heavy duty drugs at UConn. 25 years ago marijuana was the main drug and only a few hard core druggies did anything more.

Equally alarming is that 95% or 405 of the 427 students that blacked out are voting for Obama unless they are too hungover.

UConn is way better at committee work than action. Nothing will stop the scary risk-taking of binge weekend, I mean Spring Weekend, until someone dies. It's only a matter of time unfortunately. There's been several close calls. Maybe people will get riled if we know how much Mansfield and the state spends to protect the overgrown babies who don't know when to put their bottles down! It's astonishing they feel a sense of entitlement to let totally loose and let the town pick up the pieces.

UConn's Association of Republican Faculty Members (ARFM) is sponsoring an Election Eve Keg Blowout at Celeron Square. This event is bipartisan so all of the democrats and OBama supporters are especially welcome. Also, there are only two members of the ARFM so guests are needed.

This is what you get with your big crackdowns and intolerance. All it does is send kids deeper into hiding to drink on their own, and they don't know what they're doing. No older person is going to teach them how to drink responsibly out of fear of draconian prosecution, just so the powers that be can look all moral and ethical.

Looks like putting a stop to underage drinking is yet another abysmal failure.
