Violent ATM robberies can cost you more than your cash

One night in September, Jeff Cain was abducted from his South Florida hotel room, driven to an ATM and forced to withdraw $500. "I must have been easy prey," said the 36-year-old Kentucky radio show host, who ...

Security at ATM's such as camera, lighting, mirrors, etc. Do not stop a crime. Like police they only help put the pieces together after the crime.

Mr. Cain and Mr. Butler walked into a Casino to a ATM teller. What is wrong with this picture? Also they both got into a taxie cab, another look at this picture. There is something wrong again. You mean to tell people that Mr. Cain couldn't alert the cab driver or anyone at the Casino while having a man with a gun? And after givng money to Butler, Cain then walks away. Why didn't he walk away after the first transaction at the Casino? This story of Mr. Cain's abduction should be puzzeling to anyone. I wonder if Mr. Cain had been gambling at the Casino earlier?

when I go to atm's besides being very alert and councious of the surrondings, I also pack a .38 special in a very uncommon place, so if there is a robber I think he or she will be very surprised asking where that bullet came from..I can only feel sorry for the robber already in such pain dying there like a dog while I still call the ambulance for then...trust me...he'll get shot before he can say this money is mine !!

Don't Carry ATM cards.
Just use Credit Cards if you can.

It takes some planing, but the reduction in risk is worth it.

The true extent of the ATM crime problem could be easily exposed by a small change in methodology. The software that crime statisticians use is "address-dependent." All the Florida Department of Law Enforcement needs is a master list of ATM addresses and every murder robbery, rape, missing person, etc would be uncovered. The Town Mall Killer's ATM photo could easily be in another police department's file somewhere and no one would know it.

Bank of America has a built in safety feature in the new ATMs that they installed last year in all the local branches that helps prevent this sort of crime. The ATMs are always broken.

Yes, ATM's are vulnerable and easy prey.

Police should take proactive steps to protect adn show presence, besides most addicts will be making alot of trips to hte ATM at all hours of the day and night.

It's easy to judge when it's not you in that situation. We don't know what the robber told the guy to get him to comply.

Obviously you don't know the difference between CC and Debit(ATM) cards.

Using CC cards for purchases provides one with significantly more legal protections.(P.S. Don't bother to get a pin.)

They need to put the PD alert buttons right on the ATMs and at bank locations right now, just like the emergency notification buttons they have at malls. Let the cruiser come by or be in route at the touch of a button. Persons image will be on the ATM camera and local surveillance cams.

Any felon that comes up on me will leave on a gurney and the morgue will pull the lead from his body.

Waste management!
